Your suspension components look really good condition compared to most that I have seen. They look freshly painted

Looks like minimal de-rusting needed. Previous owners must’ve really taken care of that car:thumbsup:

Did a complete refurbishment (except for the engine) a few years back and was the best thing i have ever done, i am sure you will feel the same when complete.

This is all good practice for when you do my rear end when you fit my fuel tank straps for me.

Actually, I think I should reword that!!

The trailing arms looked decent in the photos, although you mentioned surface rust. Are they that bad that you're needing replacements.??

No. I went to have a look for another forum member who’s looking for an offside one for a 2.8.
Mine are ok

Looking good Malc!

Just so you know the OEM diff bush needs to be pressed in. You’ll need to bring along the diff cover plate for me to press it in :)

Today was a mixture of confusion and pain......

Could have started wire brushing and derusting, as the sun was out.......but couldn't be a**ed. So thought I would do some clean jobs and remove the shocks instead.
Roof down to remove wind deflector, then roof up to get at the trim clips. I am not built for confined spaces , but did manage to get all 4 out without braking them. Managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder after twisting myself round to get at them. ( I now know why Lee gets Gaz to do this bit !!!!)
Found one of the rubber caps split so thats on the list of parts required now. The nuts were easy to undo and the shocks just dropped out underneath the car.
Took them apart which was easy enough but did take a picture to remind me in which order things go back together.

New shocks , top mounts , gaskets and the rubber cover have now gone on the list.

As far as the refurb goes, I think everything that needs to come off is now actually off. ( at the back of the car anyway) So cant really put off doing the de-rusting and painting now.

But nothing can go back until a certain little project has been completed.....so turned my attention to that.

.....thank you @Lee for reminding me that I am old =)) I keep forgetting !!!!

I appear to missing parts on the shock assemblies.??????
Took mine off and these were the parts

Plus the two nuts from inside the car!!!
I was looking for part numbers of new parts that I will need when I found the RealOem exploded view has more parts.

Going from top to bottom, It appears I am missing 17, 16, 17, and 6

Should I be worried that they are missing.... and would it be advisable to reinstate them????

When I did my front shocks I found I was missing the washer under the top nut, as per RealOEM. The shocks were factory originals as far as I could tell.

I just installed the new shocks without the washer, noting the new shocks didn’t come supplied with the washer either (but did have a new top nut)

I would personally reinstate if you can. The only reason I didn’t was because the washer I needed is now greyed out in RealOEM:(

I’m not really helping haha.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, reinstate if you can but it’s not the end of the world if you can’t (based on my own experience)

How you've laid it out Malc is how we see all zeds.

Some do have item 9 which is a clamping plate for extra strength I have this plate as I do alot of track days. (stops fatigue)

Good day today as I found reasons not to get on with the de-rusting etc. =))

Went over to my local dealer and ordered some parts. Clips , gaskets , bleed nipples and a rubber cap. These bit were cheaper than on line prices !!!!!!

I was having a look at this

A young sharp suited Sales guy was giving me the eye as I don’t think he wanted a scruffy old git like me standing next it and ruining the showroom display.
Should have asked him for a test drive=))

But.......I was put off it though by this.....

it had an M badge :whistle:

I've also clocked these at the dealer when buying parts and was shocked at how huge they are. They're basically not far off a 3 series in size! I'll stick with my dinky lil Z3 thanks

Young man may have a sharp suit but I'm willing to bet he's never done a rear-end refurb. Ergo, Mazza wins:thumbsup:
