Probably never had the pleasure of driving a Z either 3 or 4.

:arghh::arghh:Ran out of excuses this morning so started on some cleaning.

Started with the gearbox
960E1151-D16F-4314-B102-E614196CC01D.jpeg

Masked off the breather hole to stop any dust getting inside. Then just a case of various wire brushes to get off the loose stuff. Not as bad as I thought and most is in fairly good condition. Worst bits were in the webbing pockets but it cleaned up ok.
Haven’t cut the mounting bush out as I know I will end up cutting into the casting , and @Lee has said he will push it out and install the new one on his press, when he does the Beam Bushes ( all stock rubber ones)
But it meant having to remove the rear casting from the gearbox.
So first thing find something to catch the oil in.

No....wait a minute ....thats what @Grumps would use, ....so better find something else :):):)

Thats more like it, and the new impact gun made short work of undoing the drain, filler, and 6 bolts

Nerves jangling now as I can see all the hidden magic stuff !!!! From my knowledge this may well be Narnia=))

Poked my finger inside at the bottom and couldn’t feel any swarf so that is my one and only differential test done:thumbsup:

Stuck the casting in the cleaner tank and with a bit of brushing, came up ok.

Springs look reasonable, bit rusty one end, but they are slightly different heights ( 5mm difference) so thinking they should be replaced.

The spring plates dont look too good so think they need changing.

And can someone confirm if these actually come with the new shocks?? I removed them from the lower end of the shocks in case they dont.

Also went on to AUTODOC to get an order set up. (27%) discount today.

Brake discs and pads, Brembo
Shocks, Sachs
Springs, KYB
Brake Hoses, BOSCH
Top Mounts, Drop Links, Beam Bushes, Lemforder
ARB bush. Moog

I went for mid range on pricing and this lot priced out at £311.48.

ECP had an offer of 50% off but their starting prices were a lot higher, so will probably hit the go button with Autodoc, unless anyone feels I have picked a crap manufacturer.

Unfortunately, They dont do the diff bush so will have to get that separately.

Those lower shocker sleeves should not be loose Malc. There will be sleeves in the new shockers.

Tony.

Sunny this morning , so no excuses for not getting on with it :arghh:

Wire brushed both trailing arms, the ARB and the beam.As the beam was still outside I gave that a coat of rust treatment. After 4 hours of this I had had enough
Might get one of the arms treated tonight if I dont go to footy (its away so may go on the coach leaving at 5pm)

Undid the backplates just to make it easier to get in with the wire brushes

Should dry in about an hour outside, then The next job on the beam is to get the bushes out and new ones in.
After that, it will be painted.

All parts now ordered plus I added on the front discs, pads and brake hoses to the list. Makes sense to swap the front ones as well and bleed the whole system. Would it be worth bleeding the clutch through at the same time as they share the same reservoir????

Our eldest son played South Western League for Newquay, Wadebridge and Bodmin. He's retired at the grand old age of 31

The palms were gently swaying in the warm breeze this morning in Costa del Bognor so felt I had to get out and at least do some work.:arghh:

Did all the rust treatment to the trailing arms and the ARB, and with the ARB drying so quickly did a second rust treatment primer coat. Missed a couple of spots on the beam so went over them as well.

I had a good look at the springs and it appears they are different makes. But they dont seem too bad so I will clean them up.
I have ordered new ones anyway so they will be replaced , but I will get Lees’ opinion on them and if useable then they might get someone out of trouble so could possibly leave them at either of the Zedsheds for any emergencies.

Postman arrived with a parcel, which has left me a bit confused.....
The part has come from BMW Park Lane, and its the Differential bush, but the middle seems off centre.
It this how they should be ???????
In the pictures I seen the bush always appears to be centered!

The only thing I will do later is turn the ARB round so I can prime the bottom end....but that will be all for today.

Nothing done for days as been too cold in the garage to do any painting....

So today came up with plan B......

D7E060C9-FE82-4504-A7A2-D153CD5E5557.jpeg

The conservatory is warmer, drier and has a tele

And it means I can paint at any time.
Got it set up this morning and letting the first one get up to room temp.......oh yes, and I need to go and get the paint!!!!

Just noticed something in the picture....it appears I have an instruction to myself on the paper =))
