Refurb underway (finally)

Assembly started today...albeit a slow start....

First I remembered to check that the handbrake cables would fit ok. They will, but really tight getting the o rings to locate , even with silicon spray. ( still I’ll get to sort that out later)

Got things in the garage ready, and put some cardboard down to stop scratching the parts
Tea to start....thermos for later, torque info to hand, pen and paper for notes and phone with Lee on speed dial

Got the beam and the diff back together and torqued up, and after sliding it under the car, brought out the trailing arms ( managed to get them on the correct sides without looking at the book )

Then with a bit of straining and cursing, got both trailing arms bolted up to the beam and diff just finger tight for now.

Propped up the arms so that the axles are horizontal and now wondered if it is ok to actually torque the bolts up on the beam. ( Perhaps @Lee or @t-tony could let me know)

I was thinking that it would be easier to do it now rather than after the beam/axle assy is raised back into position.

In the sunlight, I noticed a couple of scratches on the paintwork, and a couple of bits that I had missed, so quickly painted over them and it can dry overnight as don't want to lift it yet.
I have a ‘cunning plan ‘ about getting it back in position, but that will be for tomorrow.

The four new calliper sliders arrived this morning, so have all the bits now. Might start on the calliper rebuild this afternoon/evening in the conservatory ( or man cave ).

I would torque them up there mate. Bit of a myth anyway.

Thats tomorrow afternoons job sorted then....

Meanwhile ....one done , three to go.

Not saying how long this one took me though....

Looking good mate:thumbsup:

Tony.

Hmm perhaps it's a bad time to mention you could have upgraded the front brakes to 300mm ones? (or doesn't that work on M44's?)

It don’t go fast enough :arghh:

Very impressed Malc looking brilliant

The upgrade is possibly bigger brakes including vented discs from a 2.2. I think that's what Al used on his car @Bringit96

Didnt get to work under the car today......injured my shoulder last night playing walking football.:( Thats the trouble being a goalkeeper. :p

Anyway sat watching tele and finished off the other callipers this afternoon.

As I didn't need the bleed valves that came with the kits, ( I had already bought new ones), if anyone needs to replace any, drop me a PM and I will post to you.
There are 4 rear ones and two front ones.

Still nothing done....tried to torque one of the bolts this morning ......and pulled the muscle in my shoulder again.

I bloody hate being old !!!!!!

Did some easy stuff.....and just moved all the bits out to the garage....

If someone can just tell me where they all fit, then I might see some progress...=))=))

Two minor problems.....
Firstly, one of the O rings on the brake cable was damaged.....must have been me checking it out the other day......Luckily there is a company called O Rings Ltd in Chichester, so nipped over and they measured the good one and supplied me a bag of spares as samples. Brilliant.... a freebie.......or it would have been if I hadn’t gone into the town for a coffee and came home with a £500.00 Fender Stratocaster Guitar. :):)

The other minor issue is that the conservatory is now tidy.......

...but also devoid of furniture which I got rid of......now it looks a bit empty:eek::banghead:
Better get some chairs!!!!=))

Yeah. A red one :):):):)

Haha very good mate, enjoy:thumbsup:

Wish I could spend my days tinkering on my Z and buying guitars on a whim!

Strictly humbuckers for me (Gibson SG and PRS SE)

@buze They are works of art !!!:scorecard:

What you guys BUY guitars? Here's two Telecaster I made a while back :)

Absolutely stunning mate. Loving the humbuckers on the left. Is that a veneer on the right or the actual body grain? Looks amazing either way:thumbsup:

Ahah thanks! I'm a LOT handier with tools for that sort of things than crawling under the car :-)

@DrWong I used to be humbucker only, until I tasted the neck pickup of a Tele; you have to try it! The neck pickup on that Brunette tele (oiled finish, like 20 layers of) is butter smooth, really awesome.

Thanks! No it's all grain. Polished, pored filled with slightly darker Walnut, polished again, and oiled with a mix of colors of Danish oil, some tinted slightly red, some slightly yellow to get a bit of 'gold' out.

Did you take the pickguard off just for the photos haha

Bet you half wish you never drilled it:whistle:

Ahah nope, but it wasn't finished at the time, I still had to cut a thin pickguard of clear plex for it on the CNC, but I wanted to oil to cure fully, it took /months/ with so many layers!; it does look a bit 'naked' like this, with the pickguard it still shows the same grain bit looks more like a 'tele'. Lemme find a pic of it finished...
