Still nothing done....tried to torque one of the bolts this morning ......and pulled the muscle in my shoulder again.

I bloody hate being old !!!!!!

Did some easy stuff.....and just moved all the bits out to the garage....
View attachment 133559

If someone can just tell me where they all fit, then I might see some progress...=))=))

Two minor problems.....
Firstly, one of the O rings on the brake cable was damaged.....must have been me checking it out the other day......Luckily there is a company called O Rings Ltd in Chichester, so nipped over and they measured the good one and supplied me a bag of spares as samples. Brilliant.... a freebie.......or it would have been if I hadn’t gone into the town for a coffee and came home with a £500.00 Fender Stratocaster Guitar. :):)

The other minor issue is that the conservatory is now tidy.......
View attachment 133563

...but also devoid of furniture which I got rid of......now it looks a bit empty:eek::banghead:
Better get some chairs!!!!=))
Guitar studio mate :D

....here’s my new purchase

Right enough of all that.......back to the refurb.........

Nice sunny day, shoulder feeling ok so thought I had better do something.
First got underneath and torqued up the trailing arm bolts. Then saw that I needed to touch up some of the paintwork on the beam.....so did that .....what to do now while it dries?????

Oh yes.....Put the front discs and callipers back on....so got on with it.
All fitted and torqued but left the top hose connection disconnected for now as I will connect all four at the same time and bleed the system. Remembered to put the calliper up the correct way, and put a cover over the hose to stop any crap dropping into it.

I left the top clip on the disc as a reminder

Paint dry (ish) to on to my cunning plan.....
Lifted the beam and diff using the 3 trolley jacks that I have ...then slid in a short scaffold board under the diff and on top of the wheelie board. This supported the trailing arms then put the big jack under the diff and the two smaller one under the beam each side and bit by bit, lifted the whole lot.
Had to use some blocks of wood as the two smaller jacks got to their limit but not a major issue .

Hardest part was getting the propshaft back in the front of the diff.....what a friggin’ pain !!!!!

Both me and the trolley jack were up and down like bloody yoyos’.......but eventually got it to line up and then lifted it up into position. A major success....celebrated with a cup of tea!!!!

Then just a case of putting on the side plates with new bolts to replace the ‘screw of doom’ and new beam nuts, and the diff bolt.
Diff bolt torqued but the two big beam nuts are tight but not torqued yet ( I have kept a list of all the nuts and bolts that I will need to go back and torque later.)
Also got the 4 propshaft nuts on, but cant tighten them until I have the handbrake working as no way of holding it to stop it turning. ( It haz gone on ze list!!!)

And hey presto....released the jack down a bit and it stayed there :)

I then removed all the side jacks, axle stands and tools and had a tidy up.

The rear jack, I have left as it is in the picture above, as its just supporting the trailing arms so they are not just hanging off the beam

Well that was it for today, and took about 3 and half hours. Off to see Crawley v Oldham tomorrow so nothing will be done till at least sunday, when I may and try to get the springs and shocks installed.

And one other thing I thought I’d mention.......I have just placed a production order for 100 sets of fuel tank straps.
Hoping to have them in about 4-5 weeks

I just need to get the neoprene strip ordered now which I think would be better to be the same width as the strap.
Delivery on that should only be 7 - 10 days as it should only have to be slit down to size.

When I have them all here, I will put a thread in the For Sale section.

The saga continues...

Today with the sun shining got out in the garage to put some more bits back on. Checked with previous photos and RealOem to make sure I got all the bits in the right order and built up the shocks.
Cant use a socket to torque up the top nut as you need a 7mm spanner to hold on the flats.....so used the old top mount and a nut and practiced with it in the vice to get some idea of what 10ft/lbs felt like.

Fitted the springs and shocks and all went ok.. worst part, and most painful (Literally) was tightening the top nuts and refitting the trim inside the car. You have to be a contortionist..........Where is Gaz when you need him =))

All torqued and left the trailing arms sitting on axle stands just to take the strain off the shocks

Rear Brakes/ shoes/ cables and hoses are next on the agenda.:)

Did take pictures but they wont upload as the system says the jpeg files are too large and server cant handle it.
Strange, as I haven’t changed anything from all the previous pictures. ( just take the photos with the Ipad and upload them????)

Not sure why the previous post duplicated....

Today in the garage...
Fitted the brake shoes, Handbrake cables, brake pipes, new clips, anti roll bar , drop links , all the various brackets,
Nothing completely tightened up yet, just wanted to make sure everything fitted ok and I didnt have any bits left over. ( and I didn’t ....just lots of empty trays )

Next job I suppose will be get the rear discs and callipers fitted , the other hoses and sort the handbrake.
Then tighten everything ready to bleed the system.
Once the handbrake it reinstated, the propshaft nuts and the drive shaft to diff bolts can be torqued.

Top work Malc. I know people keep saying so but mate it's the truth. Going to be a cracking car once you're done.

Tony.

The white one is the new one.....but on the bag they call it a Pipe clip??? It is the right part though so I’ve ordered another one as the black one is showing signs of age !!!

Too late to start anything now as going to football in about 2 hours

I admire how you know where all the parts go. I have enough difficulty changing brake pads!:(

Ian. That’s the trouble I don’t :arghh:

I have loads of photos and RealOem exploded views plus everything’s in marked up trays. And I still have to work out which way up things go
Don’t tell anyone but I noticed that the labels on the rear springs are now upside down. It doesn’t actually matter but it will probably worry me such that I will have to take them off and put the round the other way :banghead:

Hell yeah, for Pete's sake don't take it for MOT with them labelled upside down cos you can be sure some T**t will fail it for that thinking he's very clever.

471618B3-B552-4DC5-9075-09DCC50F218F.jpeg

At least both sides will match now.....the black one can go into my spares box.
Not a total waste of time as I did card a Z3 that was at the dealership.

I have been unsure of what I should do about these....

The rubber bump stops are disintegrating and really in a poor condition. And after reading through Bentleys, to change them, its a case of unbolt the front end, shocks out and disassembled :arghh::arghh:
So, having arrived home late last night full of the joys of spring as Bognor beat Horsham 2-0, and also full of falling down liquid....I thought that if they have to come out to fix the bump stop....I may as well reinstall new shocks and springs at the same time.....seemed sensible to me at the time.....so armed with I-pad and credit card I bought all the bits to do it. Ordered via Autodoc, So will be a week before they get here, which gives me time to strip down the front end.
I can see me just ending up with a pile of bits in the garage and no car for the summer:banghead:

I am definitely not safe to be left on my own.

Thanks Tony, but I have got one. It was the one mentioned in a thread on the forum a while back and was only £20.00 and definitely better and safer that the things I used about 35 years ago.
