Some familiar parts there. I can thoroughly recommend Deox crystals. They will remove all traces of rust with only modest help required for crusty deposits. Some of the parts are cheap enough to just replace.

Only replacing all the hoses. The lines themselves are ok. A bit of surface rust on the nuts but that has cleaned off and will be treated.

Bend round anything, just so long as you don't put kinks in them. Luckily brake pipe is (fairly) cheap so you can afford to practice a bit if you're not sure, and, as usual, there's a lot of satisfaction doing stuff yourself.

A bit more cleaning.....will it ever end ???=))

Thought it wouldn't do any harm to go over the brake lines anyway just to make sure they are protected.

All the other bits wire brushed outside with an electric drill and various wire bush attachments then treated to a rust inhibitor..

Will clean them off and paint them all tomorrow.

and if its dry ( and warmer) I just might get under the car and give the underside a bit of a clean clean as suggested earlier.

Having one of those days today :arghh:

If it could go wrong ....it has

Got up to find the cat had been sick......., Managed to empty the contents of the dyson over the kitchen floor,

Went to open the garage to put the wheelie bin out, forgot the Kia was on the drive, and hit it with the garage door.

Then.....after sorting that lot out...
Got everything together to start on the rebuild of all the callipers,
D5F0366E-2E58-4929-A841-8BBC067D1B5F.jpeg

Realised only now that the black spring clips ( I so carefully painted) should be red...
fricking idiot that I am !!!!!!

And then found there were some bits missing.......after a look round, located them in a tub in the garage:banghead:
3D83F4B7-BF42-4F9B-AC3C-AE83E5CF2C8B.jpeg

All filthy, and needing cleaning , rust treating and painting ............b******s :bashhead:
Then on closer inspection of the slider pins...:(
9D1E8972-0529-47C8-BE82-E5DD47CF6420.jpeg

There are all corroded with some scoring in places. Which is probably why the front pads weren’t wearing evenly.

Not worth pi$$ing around with, as I found a set of 4 genuine ones on fleabay for £13.00. And free delivery
Just got to wait for them now. ( about a week !!!!)

Today has been one step forward, three steps back. Perhaps I should just go back to bed=))=))

Stop press.....the cat has just come in and left footprints over my, what was , nice clean kitchen floor.:arghh:

Left mine black, nice to have a bit of contrast in there. Plenty of the right grease in the right place will help, too. All those slidey bits have to be able to slide, and it'll cut down a bit on corrosion in the future.

Been having a bit of a tidy up tonight and a couple of things to mention. ( Novice thoughts and ramblings=)))

Brembo discs as already mentioned do come painted, they also come with the small hex drive retaining screws to hold them to the hub which is a bonus as one of mine was a bit iffy.

Lemforder rear drop links come with a new nut and bolt. ( so didn’t need to clean the old ones :banghead:)
Don't know if this is normal practice for all manufacturers.

Bosch handbrake cables don't have the flats on them so the holding plate I made is now not required ( still it was fun making it !!!)
This reminded me to ensure that the cable ends and spigots fit through the rear bulkhead and best checked before fitting them to the subframe, and while access is easy. I’m sure I read, or was advised, that sometimes they need to be reduced in their diameter.

Mark up which are the inner and which are the outer rear hoses .....just in case !!!!
( thats just reminded me that I need to check the clutch hose, as I am going to bleed the clutch at the same time to purge all the old fluid out.

Just waiting for the 4 new front calliper sliders before I start the reassembly of all the callipers.....( means I can watch the You tube videos a few more times to see how its done )
4BADB968-3191-4ACC-9E2B-A699A4386F83.jpeg

Spring clips black again !!
The old cut off hoses just acting as blanks to stop any bits getting inside the callipers.

Everything else now cleaned and painted

The only thing I haven't got is the brake fluid.......grateful for any advice on that.

Its taken me two months to get to this point.......and Lee, Gaz, Trev and Paul and co. can take it out and put it back in a day:eek:.............note to self .........go and buy a 2.8lt then it doesn’t matter how long this one takes =))
