You wouldn't put clean skiddies on over crusty town halls would you? ...... On second thoughts don't answer that ...=))

Today was a huge step in the right direction :):):)

A trip to Zedshed HQ, but not before breakfast with Lee, Trev and Paul at ‘ The Shack’

Then while I just stood around like a useless ornament, Lee, and his glamorous assistant Paul, proceeded to heat and press out the beam bushes.

And the result, as modelled by Paul, was a beam ready to accept the new bushes.

There was no way I would have been able to remove these so cleanly and so quickly. Then with a bit a ‘special grease’ on the new OEM bushes, ( not allowed to say where Trev acquired it  In case I get a visit from the ‘secret squirrels’ ) and a few minutes more, and the beam was done.

While Trev and Paul went off the get parts for Lee’s 3lt Z3 Ballistic Missile ( plus coffees’ :)) , Lee removed the old bush from the diff cover and then pressed in the new one.
Again, no way would I have been able to do this at home. The press is a great bit of kit.

Then after Trev and Paul got back...and coffees’ consumed.....Lee started on his car, replacing some CCV pipework ( all located under the inlet manifold so not easy to get to)
Now thats an engine !!!!!!

Paul was put on cleaning duties. ( I realised that I’m not even skilled enough to do that =)))

Lee doing the clever stuff

After a bit of a struggle with one clip, all the parts were duly assembled, the engine was running, so Lee said he would take it out for a test drive.........
Then the words I dreaded most......” Get in Malc I’ll take you for a run in a 3lt “.:eek:

Bloody hell.....it’s quick !!!!!!!! I normally only experience acceleration like that when going down the runway at Gatwick going off on holiday.
So does anyone want to buy a Silver 1.9lt, once I have it back together????=))=))
As Will Smith said in Independence Day, when he flew the Alien Spaceship.......’I gotta get me one of these’

Back home now, and have a bit more painting to do later, so got it all ready.

Many thanks to Lee, Trev and Paul for a great day, all your advice, and putting up with all my novice questions.:joyful:

Have come to the conclusion that if you dont like cleaning or painting then a refurb is probably not for you !!!!

But today I finally got to actually reassemble something. The differential !!
Now the cover plate has its new bush, got it put back together this morning. Very satisfying as everything was clean and it all went back very easily.
Took about 15 minutes.
Just left the fill plug loose.....hopefully remember to put some oil back in

One diff.....

Pile of bits

And done....first of the empty boxes.....and nothing left over:)

Now just need loads more bits finished, to go with it..:arghh:

EDIT....forgot to mention this...
I did find out this morning that the recessed Hex screws that hold the Beam Plates (the screw of doom:ymdevil:)
are no longer available. Plus BMW dont have an alternative. I was going to change mine ( recommended ) but now not sure what to use in place of them.

Malc the hex recessed screw so called screw of doom, is this something that can be machined from an existing hex bolt or is it worth getting some turned up, or is this something you leave well alone your thoughts please. (as I know of someone heading in the same direction as you)

I may have found a torx version m8 x 25.
Same head shape, and the 3mm extra length shouldn’t matter
Just getting confirmation that they will be ok to use. If so, I will order ASAP and as they come in packs of 10, and, as I only need 4, this someone you know may be in luck :):)

I replaced mine with normal 8mm bolts

Plus the calliper kits arrived today so can get them sorted. ( one annoyance.....kits came with bleed valves...and I’d already bought new ones :arghh:. )
