Using these...

I have a plan...but involves some masking tape, a couple of long M6 screws, some resin or two part filler, and a Mcdonalds or Burger King straw !!!!!

Also been wondering, while its all accessible, whether the Hockey Sticks on the sides of the centre console would look better dyed to Tanin red?????
Cant make my mind up at the moment....

Now's the time to decide Malc. My vote is yes, they would compliment the armrest.

I vote yes, but this will quickly lead to you wanting the dash pods in red also.

And then this would lead to you wanting the top of the door cards in red.

It never ends!

:):)Back from the post office .

And on with the task in hand....( I could pick any one from a hundred at the moment but never mind:arghh:)

Where I cut down the arm rest there are a lot of voids in the plastic. Which I can make use of. I bought some M6 rivnuts but now not sure if they would not loosen off over time as the armrest is used.

So plan B is to still use them but bond them into the voids using a pourable resin. I did think of body filler at first but not sure if that would actually fill all the voids.

The voids are quite deep and odd shapes so once the resin sets it will never move.
The straws over the bolts will protect the threads and I will build up the longer side as I did cut it a bit too short :banghead:

I wont use cardboard when I do it, but just getting the idea. The bolt laying horizontal will be lower down where I marked the cardboard. This is just to give a bit more stability. For this one, I will just have to drill a 6mm clearance hole as there is access to fit the rivnut on to the other end. Also as the rivnuts are flanged, it should help to bond them in and stop them from being pulled out.
The large washers will be on the underside of the console to give a bit of additional load bearing.

Thats the theory...just need to actually put it into practice.

Bloody hell, that was good service from the Royal Mail. Honestly no rush!! Got loads of other things that I can get on with.

Got to get some resin and hardener and I have been advised that Araldite do one that would suit this.

Had some parcels arrive this morning.......:):)
A new Battery Charger, as my old one has finally given up.
A5C8129A-B283-4C3A-BC13-9EEC9B979915.jpeg

Already seeing action as the battery on the car needs fully charging. Its one of those intelligent ones so just letting it do its stuff.

Big parcel from Autodoc arrived just after
92CE3F98-CE43-4A91-B3AE-79905543F3D1.jpeg

New shocks, springs, top mounts and dust cap kit.
The only thing not included was the gasket so I have had to ordered them from local BMW dealer. ( due in tomorrow)
Cant say that I am looking forward to compressing the spring and assembling all the parts as always a bit of a nervy operation.

Wire brushed the top plates and currently having a rust treatment. Then will paint them ready for the assembly.l

Side tracked on other things today, but I have sorted the problem of tightening the shock nut and holding the shaft.

Ground off the side of the new 22mm long reach socket to make a window.
Tried it on the old shock and seems to work, so one problem resolved.

I used the breaker bar to hold it still on the grinder and it was still too hot to touch when I took the picture

After it cooled down I wiped it over and it looks ok . Doesnt look any different to the BMW ‘special tool’ ...and I wonder how much one of those would cost???? This was £6.95. :)

I would’ve just used my impact driver on “low” power setting.

Thats the problem with my impact driver tony, .......doesn’t have any settings, so only really good for undoing nuts.
