I would’ve just used my impact driver on “low” power setting.

Tony.
definitely don't do it on the medium or high setting else you will end up having a very bad day.... ;)

Picked up the hockey sticks today from @Jjim at ZedShed HQ. Really pleased with them and a great match to the armrest :):)

While I was there made use of Lees’ hydraulic spring compressor and assembled both front struts.

O

All torqued up ( thanks to Lee) and ready now to be put back in the car.
I am so glad I didn't have to do this. :)

Should have taken some pictures of the spring compressor in action but forgot, plus there was lots of activity going on with rebuilding the back end of James’ car.
It was nice to see James again and finally meet Dave ( Grumps) , plus the regular crew of Trev, Gaz, and Paul. I think I’ve missed someone out but cant think who else was there ( sorry)

While I was out, the two part resin was delivered by Royal Mail (dropped 6ft over the back gate onto concrete :banghead:) .......so may be able to get the potting done tomorrow and get the anchor points locked in.
It cures quickly about 10 minutes, but needs 24hours to harden at room temp.

Now that all the car bits are back in the garage I tidied up the conservatory and assembled my new chairs
(Kitchen is still a mess though )

I have been dragging my heels on getting this rebuild done ( get distracted too easily by other toys:whistle:) , but after seeing the speed that the Zedshed do a rebuild decided that I really need pull my finger out to get the car rebuilt and ready to go back on the road for 1st April....so that is my aim....( but dont hold me to it =)))

Inspired by yesterdays visit to Zedshed HQ, I got on with some stuff today.

Opened the garage door to let the sunshine in and proceeded to re-fit the front shocks, discs and callipers.
Used thread lock on the two bottom bolts and torqued it all up ,
I left the final brake hose connection and will do them when I am about to bleed the system later

Then got the rear discs and callipers installed.

Need to get the handbrake adjusted and working so I can stop the axles turning and torque the axle/diff bolts and the propshaft nuts. Still thats for another day.
After yesterday, definitely not as much fun working on your own ......no one to hand down tools, no one to hold bits while trying to fit nut or bolts.....no spooning on the floor with either @Lee or @Grumps .:eek:....actually, thinking about it .....its better working on your own =))=))

Today......how can I put this delicately........

A COMPLETE AND UTTER F*** UP.

EAF0EB5D-5E15-444C-A226-9B0513389CB4.jpeg

Every thing set up to pour the resin in a lock in the anchor nuts.......bit heath robinson but everything in the right place.
Weighed out the resin and activator mixed it correctly and then had about 4 mins to pour it in

So far so good......

What I f***in’ didnt know is that all the cavities in the armrest where I needed to pour the resin are joined and have openings that are hidden from view.

This resulted in what I can only describe as sheer bloody mayhem, which dissolved into a tirade of the most foul mouthed ten minutes you would ever hear.

Once I pulled the bag off ( there to protect it ) I found it had been running out inside and totally ****** it.

B31ED8F9-C6EE-4D13-AA52-431093211237.jpeg

BEB04DA1-D7D5-454B-BEB6-966902BE0312.jpeg

The resin even found its way inside the hinge part and jammed it solid =))
There is nothing that can be salvaged from this pile of scrap and its now residing in the dustbin!!!!!

Luckily the worktop was undamaged so it could have been worse!!!!

I have only posted this as a warning to anyone thinking of installing an armrest NOT to use this method.....
.......it doesn't bloody work !!!! :bashhead:

Ok.....that was a total cock up......but in the current climate, nothing more than a minor irritation.
So onwards and upwards......Already found another armrest on ebay and bought it.
Once it comes I will work out a new method of securing it without the use of any bloody resin

I look forward receiving confirmation of what a plonker I am =))=))

Chin up mate, trial and error. In the grand scheme of what you've done (and what you will have) see it as a thorough test of your vocal cords and expletive vocabulary .......... which I'm sure is now much expanded. Bugger :(

That's a rotten shame Malc. I know it can be overcome and in the grand scheme of things as you say a minor irritation but still a shame.

Tony.

Now over the debacle of the arm rest, and got on with some work this morning.
Fitted in the heat shield, drop links, anti roll bar, wheel sensors and all the various new clips to hold everything in place .

Refilled the diff with new oil and torqued the nut.
Also torqued up the two big beam nuts. This was easy with the new torque converter and a long breaker bar.
As you tighten the nut, I could see the torque value increasing on the display, and as it got close to the 140Nm it started to beep and a continuous beep when it reached it. (I also used a six point impact socket rather than the 12 point normal socket )

I cleaned the two wheels that had been sitting under the car as well.

Oh and this turned up via a courier.....:)

Armrest PART ll .......Back to the start !!!!!

The box had been dented and there were some pressure marks on the top, so left it in the sun to warm up and they have started to disappear so hoping it will sort itself out. If not, could try a hairdryer. .

A bit more done today....

Adjusted the handbrake, which meant I could torque up the driveshaft to diff torx bolts. Also did the propshaft bolts with the @Lee two spanner method .....as in when you fart its torqued =))=)).......

Put the wheel arch liners back in, then painted the exhaust bracket red....
(in a homage to @Jjim with his nice new blue refurb.) and had a tidy up.

This is all that's left on the bench now;)

Unfortunately the inside of the car might need a bit of tidying up yet ....

Cant bleed the brakes yet .....no fluid :(

So may as well make a start on the second armrest :p

Didn’t really feel like doing much today....but made a token effort....

Removed the rear undertray ( without smacking my face on the underside of the car this time) to have a look at the condition of the clutch hose.......at last something that doesn’t need replacing
60A909C0-2508-4D45-9426-B65F16BB6A01.jpeg

Everything clean and in good condition.

I did find that the fixings in the cross support were not too good as the screws were loose in them.
Again a lucky result as I had a pack in my spares box :)

Easy way to remove these push in nylon body nuts.
A bit of wood with a larger size wood-screw about 150mm from the end. Wind the screw into the nut, and lever the nut out Really simple.
C0692730-578B-4BC0-9CFF-A1BE1F72A7AF.jpeg

Then just tapped the new ones in.

My token bit of red paint work for the underside....
E4F0337B-B1C9-4ACD-B3C9-BA34CEDB23ED.jpeg

Not dropping the beam out again just to paint everything red =))

I also cleaned the undertray.....which for me is amazing as I dont normally even clean the bit you can see:whistle:
78424779-0D2E-4590-955E-A436B3282445.jpeg

That was it for today.....other than I dug out the combine harvester and cut the south pasture and the top meadow.......or rather grabbed the flymo and did the front and back garden
