Luckily the last part arrived this morning that I needed before the console went back in......a microphone for my bluetooth radio unit for using the mobile in the car. It was a optional extra....so never came with the unit when I bought it.
I was going to put it up near the sun visors but thought there may be a lot of wind noise when the roof is down so stuck it in the instrument panel. Then fed the wire round the back and it plugs in on the back of the radio.
So onwards.....and center console reinstated. Untangled and Fed all my pull strings through the appropriate hole in the console before easing it back into position.
Then with a bit of wiggling
The only issue was that the bottom bolt that now fixes the armrest, was fouling on the carpet, so the back right hand side screw wasnt lining up. So to get over it just lifted the back up and got my hand in and cut about 10mm off the edge of the carpet where the bolt was resting on it. That cured it and it then put all the fixing screws back in.
Connected all the switches and clipped them back in. Plus the two gaiters
Then on to the scary bit.......remove the airbag!!!!!
First get Bentleys !!!!
Had to read it through a couple of times till it made sense. Then went for it.
Battery disconnected and waited 10 minutes .........( then realised the book said 10 seconds !!!!)
The connectors under the steering column were a pain, and took a while to see how they separated , but eventually got them apart. Then a couple of screws, more connectors and carefully removed the airbag .
It was like an episode of Danger UXB.
Then lined up the road wheels, undid the centre nut and off with the steering wheel.
I put both steering wheels on the floor, next to each other as there is a big plastic housing containing god know what, but had to be swapped over...Three more torx screws to undo then lifted the assembly off and put it straight back on the new one ( feeding the wires through the boss)
Then reversed the process...
Steering wheel put back on the spindle, centre nut torqued, Airbag fitted back ( very carefully !!) all wire connections done and plastic cover clipped back on.
And what I have now is this......
