Looks good mate. We should get ours back either Friday or Saturday. Still has the front bumper to spray and then just a couple of runs to sort out then should be good for the polishing stage

I bet you can't wait! I think the two blobs I've noticed on the bootlid in the video maybe runs, do they just flat these back and polish up? How long have they said before you can polish and wax it yourself?

I did not ask him but it should be finished Tuesday then will have 3 to 4 days to cure before i pick it up. Should be ok to wash n wax when i get her home but will be asking the question when i pick it up. My only trouble is it is an outside car. I am thinking about getting black faux fur over throws to go under the fleece lined cover i have. Will be a pain but should help protect the paint

Nice to see all the panels off for a proper respray. I thought if your having a problem with reaction that an isolating coat can be applied to avoid this @Sean d is that true.

Looking at those panels it’s going to look sweet when all back together. Plus with all the running gear done a virtual new car just to enjoy.

I think he is trying a different primer, I managed to get them looking OK when I did them just can't remember what I used. He will get them looking good I'm sure, if not I may get the splitter wrapped in black and possibly the ///M vents. The rear beam needs dropping in the winter to renew all the bushes and get the rest of the underneath tidying up. Still plenty more to do as always with these cars.

Got a couple of jobs done over the past week, mainly cleaning a couple of rubber seals and retaping the spoiler and badges ready to go back on. Speaker grills for the doorcards now painted and some weed control fabric put behind so it looks neat.

Painted a few other bits ready to go back on, as well as the CAI that sits in the front grill from red (well pink it was going) to black so it looks a bit more stealth.

Got a load of new screws to replace the rusty ones that came off the sill covers and painted them with a nice coat of silver.

I went down last Monday to hang the panels back on the car ready for flatting and polishing. It was looking great as it was and not a lot of orange peel, just some lacquer runs to sort out. All of the main panels went back on, just need to perfect the gaps and tighten the screws plus a several smaller fixings to reinstall.

When you pick it up make sure you give it a good check over and also see if you can pick it up when the sun is out. Went to pick ours up yesterday and looked brill in the workshop, told him to pull it into the sun so i can inspect it (gave me a funny look) as it was it was the sun that picked up a few issues you could not see in the workshop. We ringed all the issues and i told him to call me when it has no issues, hopefully sometime this week.
It is usually the polishing where these companies fall over on as it is not really their game, (well not to the standard i want)

Yes thanks Billz, if the sun is out I'll try and get him to bring it outside. When I had a good chat to him last week about flatting and polishing he seems to be pretty clued up with it. In the final pic above he says there is still a long way to go, just depends how shiny I want to get it. Most panels have had 3 coats of lacquer, some 4 so there is plenty to cut back and polish up. I know what you mean about companies not polishing to some peoples standards, I'm very fussy as well and he knows that. He is a one man band when it comes to painting and polishing and spends a lot of time getting it spot on. I'm sure there will be areas that I pick up on what he's missed but it all looks pretty decent so far.

Hope you get yours back soon with no issues

Nice job on the speaker grills, going to have to get new for mine due to going rusty. Did you get your new sill screws from BMW?
No screws came from eBay, somewhere in China. I got 100 for just under a tenner. Probably need to touch some up as the paint flaked when installing them, obviously didn't leave them long enough to dry.

Your getting there Dave, think it’s going to look the dogs when all finished and think maybe you’ll show it, No???
With all the fine detail me thinks you should. Think the backing on the tweeter grills looks/is better than OEM. Did mine on the Z3 but only with a bit of paint your idea is the way to go for anyone going down that road. Hope you’ll have time to get some miles/events in this summer.

It's complete

He sent me this earlier and I went to pick it up tonight.

All tucked away now until probably the weekend when I can perfect the panels gaps and get things put back on.

From what I've seen it looks amazing, I am very happy. Front splitter and side vents are not perfect as he needed more time on these and a bit extra money but they will be fine for now. Will give it a good going over with some wax soon, scared of washing it now. Infact I might just leave it as it is in the garage.
