That's not cool. The lengths people go to just to get a front end respray
I found a stone chip on the front bumper and tried to buff it out.

There is actually a little bit of rust coming through on the bonnet, had it treated and stuff when it went in for a respray but knew it wouldn't last. Should have got a new bonnet at the time, but couldn't really afford it. Suppose I can get it sorted now and the one annoying stone chip it picked up.

2 years since an update :banghead:

Best pull my finger out. As usual quite a few jobs have been done, some quite major.

I'll try and do it in some sort of order that they were done, firstly back in July 21 I found a replacement bonnet. Mine would have been an easy repair after the smash but there was some bad rust that came back through the wheel arch on the drivers side. So I picked up another, rust free (main problem areas) one in the same colour. Unfortunately there were a few dents, nothing major but these would get sorted as I planned to have the bonnet repainted along with the bumper repair. Overall it was in pretty smart condition, very straight and only some minor surface rust on the underskin. I hired a van and went on the 3 hour round trip to collect, only to find the bloke had vanished and I couldn't track him down  Eventually I got through to him and he explained he'd had a family emergency and would deliver it to me a few days later. True to his word, he turned up with the bonnet o_O

Didn't fit it for a while so it sat in the garage and I tidied up the underside ready for when it eventually went to paint. Treated some smaller surface rust areas and gave it a coat of silver and transferred all the old bungs and stuff.

Then I was having some issues with the car stalling when I pulled up at junctions along with some rough running which was intermitent. No codes came up for a week or so then eventually a camshaft error appeared. I replaced this with a genuine sensor plus o ring and has been great since. New one has a wider head compared to the old and was straight forward to fit.

It failed the MOT later than year mainly for a major exhaust leak and rear brakes which was a sticky caliper and the handbrake needed tightening. The exhuast had a small hole in the silencer which got a lot bigger before it could be welded. This was only a quick fix as a new exhaust was on the list for the future. Plus the baffle had come loose in the backbox so we cut it open and took it out then patched it back up. A quick coat of high temp paint along with the patch up and it sailed through the MOT.

Starting to look a bit crusty underneath around the rear beam and diff

Onto 2022 and I was determined to give the zed a bit more love and attention. First job was to put some new boot struts in. The old ones were pretty knackered.

Got the new bonnet on with some temporary grills in February in anticipation to get the crash damaged repaired almost a year later. You can see some of the dents that would need repairing, plus the mess I made of the front bumper. Most of this was actually covered by the number plate holder and didn't make it look too bad.

And to finish the month a quick oil and filter change at 123,786 miles, less than 5000 since the previous one.

I'm sure it will be amazing when finished.
When I think it's finished I find something else to do. I don't think I will ever finish it but that's all part of the fun.

Wish I had the know how to tackle some of those jobs.
And like Doc once said, if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
