Like a lot of us at the moment I've had a bit of spare time so I decided to do something I've fancied doing for a long time. The real reason I bought some Imola red dye was because I fancied recolouring the ///M interior exactly as it would be in an ///M with Imola red and black seats, doorcard inserts and centre console. It has taken a while to do, probably around 3 weeks doing a few hours a day. I used the furniture clinic kit and refreshed the black centre sections of the seats and sides of the centre console whilst I was doing the rest. I did a couple of repairs to the drivers bolster and bottom section of the seat mainly filling in some scuffs. Some pics of the progress

The carbon wrap colour I chose gives a great contrast against the black and red on the centre console and doorcards I think

You may notice above that I also did the pull handles in red as well. Not how they would have been originally but I've seen a couple of others done like this and I think they look great :)

So that's the interior, I wonder what else I can dye??? Not much left but there are two other things I've dyed, one might be guessed easily but the other not so easily:wacky:

I'll post up some finished pics soon.

what Andy says superb job. Did you spray it on? As the finish looks really good.
Well, I tried. Had very mixed results with the propellant cans, the black went on brilliant and the finish coat was ok when I could get it to work. When I sprayed the black it was a hot day, did it outside and it sprayed great. Did the same with the red but a colder day and the airbrush kept freezing up despite being in warm water. I gave up with it and applied it by sponge. This gave a great finish although it looked quite artificial so a rubbed it back with some wet and dry pads then applied another coat of watered down dye. Only thing I am not 100% happy with is the finish. It should be matt but I ended up applying this by sponge and it has gone a bit satin in places and you can see parts where it's been wiped on. I could flat it back a bit, but then again it's 20 year old leather so adds to the patina. If I was to do it again I would use the airbrush and a compressor. You do get a better finish by spraying, but then I seemed to get through the dye a lot quicker. They do still look great and I am very happy with the outcome.

I decided to go ahead and change the CCV system yesterday on my 2.8 M52TU, without removing the manifold. On a couple of occasions when flooring it I've had a big cloud of smoke come out of the exhaust plus I had a small split in the hose across the top of the inlet manifold. It all came out fairly easy and 2 out of the 3 connections look straight forward to feed through and fit to the main unit.

My problem came trying to attach the smaller angled hose through to the top of the manifold. I was looking at @Lee's guide which showed most of the things that needed to be moved out of the way. I connected this hose to the main unit first as its a push then twist connection and fed it up to the top of the manifold where it connects. No matter which way I tried I still could get the main unit to go far enough back into place. It's impossible to put it in place first as well, then try to feed the hose through and push and twist it into place. I spent probably 3 or 4 hours trying all different ways but it wouldn't work.

In the end I decided to unbolt and move the power steering reservoir out the way which gave me access to the connection on the main unit whilst it was in place. There was just enough room to push the hose in and twist it up to the top of the manifold, securing it in place how it should be. Once I had this access it was connected up in about 5 minutes :banghead: then the rest was straight forward.

So if anyone thinks of changing the CCV system in situ, make sure you move the power steering reservoir out of the way unlike I did

All now seems to be running fine at present, just got to check for any leaks in the next few days.

New kit ready

This was the split hose, tapped up for the last few weeks. Plus a broken connection on the top of the hose that was a bi*** to fit, held with a cable tie

New ones in, forgot to take photos of the main unit though!

And it looked like it was well overdue a refresh

I did also notice the small vacuum pipes that connect to the cannister and route upto the back of the manifold and fuse box are crumbling so I've got some new hose on the way to get these changed.

I never enjoy changing CCV's. That looks minging inside, well overdue a change. Remember depending which model the power steering reservoir is in different places :D

It's not the most enjoyable job but not the worst. Most of the pipes were like that too, but then it doesn't do many long journeys most are short to work and back, 3 miles each way. The new CCV system on mine almost got fitted in a different place, the neighbours dog would have loved the new toy =))

Top of rollhoop tabs?
Good spot!

I did try some other badges on them, but preferred the originals.

As I had the wind deflector off I put it back on for the time being with normal cable ties, need to swap them out again with the stainless steel ones so they are camouflaged against the hoops.

You never cease to amaze me Dave, think that’s a great result and you should be proud. I’ve been thinking of getting the kit and doing mine but know it’s not as easy as people think. Maybe later this year or early next.

Thanks Roy. Go for it, it's not that hard really just very time consuming. Only thing I would do different next time is use a proper compressor to spray the dye on or at least the finish. I went for the matt finish but it never came out like that due to the way I applied it. They do look a lot more shiny in the pics though than they actually are.
