He has spot zinc primed the underside of the sills, front and rear wings and then stone chipped them to hopefully give them a bit more protection that usual

Looks like a real nice job Dave. Might be worth trying to protect some of the more vulnerable parts on the outside before venturing out on any newly shingled roads. Like the way he’s tried to help protect some vulnerable underside parts.

If it turns out like yours and has that shine on like in the pic you posted the other day I'll be very happy. Shame you still think it needs a top coat in a proper colour =))

He seems a top bloke and quite particular, as he is going along he says he is liking the Z3 more and more. He's a car enthusiast himself and has an old 205 convertible which he is currently restoring. I think having someone who shows a bit of interest and likes things perfect themselves should hopefully do a decent job.

I'll be ok driving it, just paranoid leaving it parked anywhere. Might just leave it in the garage and add layer after layer of wax and just bring it out once a year ;)

The only thing I'm doing is protecting the bottom of rear wings with some PPF, I made some last time I changed the wings and put them on and they worked perfectly. The bottom of the rear wings seem to get battered. I still don't know whether to fit the front mudflaps, they do a great job of protecting the front of the sills and edge of the wing but they are mud traps. If I take them off periodically and keep behind clean it is probably the way to go. I wouldn't mind getting the front bumper and bonnet protected with PPF but it's not that cheap and I'll be skint for a while. It will pick up stone chips but not much can be done about it unless I don't take it out.

I need to do the engine bay as it's terrible, some rusty places and it needs painting really. It should have been done before but I'm doing everything backwards. The guy did clean it all up before he started and it looks 10 times better than it was. I did ask him to do the backs of the panels with stone chip or similar, he says he doesn't normally go that far but has with mine.

Been doing a couple of jobs whilst some parts are off the car, cleaned up the mudflaps and jacking point covers. Got the doorcards off, had a loose tweeter behind the grill that needed reglueing as well as part of the trim that came away. Whilst they are off I'll fix the material behind the speaker grill plus got a few parts to repaint myself before it all goes back together.

Also had a picture tonight, looks like he has got some paint and lacquer on the rear wings. Not sure if he has done anymore yet I'm going down tomorrow for a look.

It's always easier to get a good deep shine on a dark colour. That's why you should have taken the opportunity to give it a decent top coat=))

The Z3 2.8 and the “M” wing grill insert in black is just the ticket in my book, subtle and not OTT especially with silver being the main colour, like it a lot. Can’t wait to see it all come together.:)

Went to see it yesterday and it's looking good. He's having some trouble with the parts I recently repaired and repainted, the splitter and ///M gills as the primer is reacting. He says he could spend 3/4 of a day just on the gills so I said just do the best he can. May need new ones at some stage. He finished getting paint on the bonnet, doors, boot and front wings last night and sent me a video. There looks to be 2 big marks on the boot so will see what has to be done about them, looks like drips of lacquer but I can't see close enough. He's got the mirrors, rear plate holder and brake light top to do still. I'm going back tommorow to help him hang the panels and then it all needs flatting and polishing.
