I've had bumpers done in the past and been happy but having 3/4 panels done at a time will be different. I don't think I'd be happy with the other panels if I just had done what was needed. They would not be as fresh and possibly not be a perfect colour match like you mention. I always said when I bought the car one day I may get it resprayed, my brother had his old E36 done and after seeing that I've wanted mine done even more. I've got through buying 2nd hand panels and touching up here and there in the past so now is the time to treat it. I just hope it's everything I'm expecting and that it doesn't fail the MOT as it's due next month after spending all this money
If you haven't started stripping it Dave get it tested first mate. No chance of damaging fresh paint doing any mechanical work. Shirl's brother always used to do this and I never did understand his logic. Either way, good look mate.

Tony.

Too late it's gone now. I didn't think before booking it in and started taking bits off. Then looked when the MOT is due the other day and it's next month, I thought it was August time. At least it will be a nice looking MOT failure if that's the case :wtf:

Well it's gone now, along with the panels. Should be back in 4 weeks, maybe sooner and I'll get some progress pics along the way.

And although it might look good in pics and some may wonder why it's getting done, well here is the state of some of the panels...

Looking at those pics...I’ve revised my offer downwards to £850....

I have to say seeing that black ‘sill’ makes me think some black to the sill and rear balance could look very cool with this black wheels...

It’s a terrible wait whilst the car is away for major work, horrible when you see it all sanded down and undressed but it’s worth the wait!

I like the decals @t-tony has on the sills of his Z4 and many other BMW's but I don't think the lines of the Z3 would be suitable for something like that. I did the badges and boot pull black a while ago just for a few touches here and there. The ///M gills have the black inset and the fin painted black as well, but the guy is painting the whole gill body colour as he says it's a lot more work to do the black inset. I think I would prefer that black but will see how it comes out if not I may do it after myself, yet to make up my mind.. But he mentioned again yesterday about a possible colour change, but that's a lot more work and money. But I keep thinking should I?! It would be carbon black, or even imola red non of which were ever on a facelift. But I also love sterling grey. I need to stop thinking about it.

I can't wait to see it all stripped back with no paint and then in primer for some reason I love seeing cars like that.

And your welcome to give me £850 for this nail I'm driving at the moment

I will be having it back laddy, any more comments like that

and you can have the 1 Series, or even get lumbered with the Z4, that'll teach you.

Anyway.... be careful of that car, it can land you in trouble with the speed camera van

ooops...

Please don't give me the Z4 or I might not want to give it back :banghead: it's too late to change my mind now.

Oh you would know about it getting you in trouble, tut tut. It might be staying with me for a while when the judge takes your license away. That will teach you for not using your bus pass.

Dont worry, I’d not be parting with £850 for that - we all know that courtesy cars are universally abused - must be totally knackered by now =))

Might bite at £450 though

“Ouch” that was a rather cutting remark Dave as it just reminded me that I’ve yet to use mine.
Clip round the ear if you were mine.=))

No turning back now! Went to strip the back end today, most of it has now been stripped and is in the process of being prepped.

He didn't realise there was so many dents in the doors. I knew they were quite bad but they weren't really visible unless you really looked. Overall not that many, just the doors that have suffered.

Forgot to get some pics of the bumpers but the damage on the front one doesn't seem too bad.

IMG_6770.JPG

The bottom of this wing was a little worse than first thought. All should come out ok though.

IMG_6769.JPG

Sills are ready for stone chip. All the rears of the panels will be treated as well he is not sure what with yet, either stone chip or some sort of sealer.

IMG_6768.JPG

A lot more prep to go.

A nice thorough job going on and I do like the red soft top against the silver bodywork
