I'll give it a go this evening and try it. I've purchased the kit to flare anyway. Will potentially still need it so always good to have, can return if not required.

No worries Andrew, just make sure you get the grip jaws on the flat of the union. I did a how to for making brake pipes a few years ago.

Cheers tony. Not the handiest of jobs. Im also procrastinating abit on the exhaust removal lol. Not sure how thats going to pan out. Will be looking at it tomorrow. Hoping shocks etc arrive tomorrow so dropping down to neighbour to fit the coils for me all going well. While he does that plan is to attempt the removal of exhaustYou got there in the end though mate. That looks a good flare.

If your neighbour has oxy-acetylene gear it's easy to do. Heat the nuts cherry red and knock a socket onto them . Once you have the flange separated heat the flange red hot and the studs will knock out easily. Replace them with nuts and bolts. Again done this many times and never failed. You do have to get the flange red hot though.

Do the studs come free? I was on the assumption they were part of the flange?
Im gonna try wrestling with it anyway and see how far i get. Have a half day today so have a few hours daylight to get a look at it.

So i got 2 of the nuts cut off the exhaust flange then the dremel flexi arm destroyed itself somehow (lasted all of 30 minutes!) So being stubborn and p***** off i went full crazy and did this.
Yes ive fked my exhaust doing this. Yes it wasnt the best of ideas cutting that with the petrol tank sitting above me. No i didnt die. Yes i am happy its outta the way and allowing me to drop the subframe out. And yes the exhaust was getting replaced anyway.
Said to mechanic neighbour and after he finished laughing at my insanity he said he will knock the studs out when im ready to give it to him.
That crazy episode aside. It allowed me to progress tonight. I present to you the dream team.
This crazy combo allowed me to remove the 4x6mm cap heads from the support plates at the subframe.
The last one^^ you talk about squeeky bum time.
That mission took 2.5hrs and a lot of nervous texting @Lee lol.

Not gonna lie. Im not even angry at myself for cutting it. I spent a good hour trying the nuts but they were welded frozen.. i had started tis madness and im going to see it through.
As for those allen key caps. That was hairy. Every nut i heard breaking i was scared i was gonna see half of it still on the end of the key.
Sausage rolls were tasty. Im 3 nuts and a breakline away from victory.
Regarding weight. Ive seen the shocking weight of it in video. Is very deceptive. Might need something more stable than my trolley jack to lower it out

Got my struts/shocks (what actually are they called?!) and coils back from neighbours (mechanic) he has a spring press so for the price of £20 i avoided the risk of having a coil explode in my face. No brainer when the tools were gonna cost me more.
Got everything tightened up, the hubs back on and the shocks installed. Thats the front finished except the breaks needing bled which wont be done until the rear is finished.

I was saying to lee earlier. Id be lying if i wasnt impressed with now im getting on. My dad was out looking at it impressed also. He can be brutally honest so to get praise when hes on a fault finding mission is a good win
Rear got a pen oil soak all day. Attach it tomorrow some how.

You know its actually a job when ya get a "job well done" though so keeps ya always doing the best job. Id liked to have changed the front discs cause they aint "new" but they arent worn so waste of money! Other than that im pleased with the progress. Nice to have the front nearly complete apart from panels. We're starting to be on the winning side of the strip. Steering feels nice and tight. All new. Very happy tbh.
Cant wait to see her on the wheels to see the new lower height! Shes 30mm drop all round on 16s
Started stripping the rear the last few nights. Got the subframe off fairly handy.
The shafts from the diff was a different issue. Hindsight would have tried the E12 bolts while insitue but sure.
Got the lend of neighbours impact wrench. Lads. Why have i been fighting with nuts and bolts by hand this whole time?! Thon thing is a dream come true.
E bolts clean off. I really struggled with the calipers bolt on the front to the point i had to give up. Physically couldnt move them. Impact on the rear. Straight off. Christmas list just got longer
It genuinely makes it so much more enjoyable not fighting all night removing 4 bolts. Saying that id say id give a mean arm wrestle now lol.
In regards to the bushes now. Whats the best approach removing them? Burn all out?

That works if you don’t have a press mate. I had access to one before I left work, although I did borrow the use of it to press a front wheel bearing on the Jimmy last Monday.
