Decided to check the roof tonight while wife watches soaps. Started with the fuse. Was ok. Didnt know how to use the roof so followed your steps. Heard the motor spinning so checked the T key. Tightened it up and bingo straight away working so cheers Althulas. Another we win for today. Nearly ready for the body work etc. Shame my pocket isnt ready otherwise I'd be balls deep into the sills, wings, wingmirrors etc already
Glad you got that working cheap fix, not sure you need the handbrake on though for it to work  @Althulas ;)

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Sensors arrived today. (Lambda and ABS) Fitted within 40 mins. Laptop hooked up with the INPA software on. Errors cleared. Errors stayed cleared. Have a completely error free Z3 for the first time since I've had her. Very happy man. Went for a good 50mile spin (with my electric assisted top down *cheesy grin*) to see if dash lights stayed off and a we bit of ASC testing *heh heh*. All good. Button turning on and off as should. Very happy man this afternoon.

Going to enjoy her as is now for the next few months while I save for parts for the winter. Have bushes to change. front and back. Body work to look at and rust prevention to apply.

Enough of the negatives though. So glad to get a spin in her. Ain't had a drive since got her home about a month ago as been wanting it safe and sound before I did do any real driving. Now the fun can begin for a few months.

Hate these things but at the risk of being a t**t. #tapsaff :racecar:

Thanks for the advice and encouragement this far lads. I know its been wee handy enough jobs so far but to me who's got no experience at all at cars it's a serious win for me to do this myself.

So Finally got the car up onto car jacks and got a look under her.

Shes had very little recent work done ill say that. I've a whole new control arm and bushing set and track rod set coming in the post. Will need to add break discs and dust covers to that list it would seem. might even change the suspension front and rear while im at it now. Had already considered swapping out the rear struts so might just put the money in and do it right.

Subframe is surface rust so a good brush down and POR15 coat should sort it out.

The exhaust will need replaced also. Those nuts are rusted to the point i was able to break them away to basically nothing with my hand. but besides that the exhaust system does look very aged and i want it swapped out.

I'm thinking for the main work as much as id like to do it myself it may have to go to mechanic. the rust on the nuts is worrying. I've PB Blaster which im going to soak it in but id be surprised if that will help. Will need to get these all replaced with new and ill be surprised if they wont need cut and bored out.

on the plus side the Chassis looks to be in good condition at least and engine is purring like a kitten.

They are all replaceable parts which is grand. Also think the engine mounts could do with being replaced. getting quite old looking.(not pictured) but again nothing i could do myself.

There is surface rust on the axels which im going to brush down and rust proof again.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't know whether to be disheartened or not tbh.

Got bored today. Little progress to be made on the z3 until payday comes so decided may as well give the internals abit of a sparkle. Plastics were getting tired looking and same goes with the leather seats and door cards.

Used Maguire's ultimate black on the plastics to bring them back. And a drop of dubbin on the leathers.

Nice and shiny

Literally counting down the days to get the parts to build the front section. Took her for a quick run this afternoon. Very enjoyable cars to drive. Will be interesting to see the difference once the subframe is replaced and fresh bushings throughout, new suspension struts and springs and breaks all over. Alot of work to do in the coming months. Prob replace all break lines etc while have all out. Pointless not doing them when the cars basically stripped.

Had a few good days (N.Ireland) so been out enjoying her while we have the days to do so. Spent all day yesterday just driving about. Man are these cars fun. And the amount of head turning ya get. Hard to say if its "look at that wa%ker" or "fair play lad" but sure not bothered at all. I enjoy her that's all that matters.

Gotta woo these older women for a while before they give ya access to their underside ;)

Ain't been doing much recently apart from decorating the house. Finally got a break do some things. Was more to see how they looked. The purists ain't gonna like this so divert your eyes! I like it anyway. Once do these changes she's getting sorn and the panels are coming off. Also is it a good thing that I'm the first man from factory to have the door cards and wing mirrors off? I'm telling myself yes? Lol

Black grill (keeping original)

Wingmirrors off and sanded (they were in serious shape with bubbling)

Wing mirrors sanded ready for primer. You guessed it. Going sapphire black for them too.

This is sorta to dip the toes to get back into it before sills and wings and passenger door gets replaced (bad rust below window. Poked it with my finger and it went through lol) and the whole sills etc get rust prepped etc.

So took into removing the front panel and sills on the drivers side tonight (was the worst side)

As a whole the sill is in optimistically OK condition. The biggest problem is the Jack stands. To say they are bad is an understatement. Rotten clean out. Going to have to learn to weld it seems

Halford's ballsed up my order for grinder attachment for the rust pads so tore into the passenger side. Thankfully it's "grand" all surface rust.

Just need to sort the drivers side out. All hope is not lost.

Ha cheers lad. Long way to go before i can agree with you all the same lol. Got her booked in with mechanic on friday to get the sill sorted on driver side then can treat it all and start getting panels replaced and resprayed. Gonna get it booked in for a full panel respray once ive all my work done. Glad to get the panels off to see what was hiding underneith. Bought in england without a viewing. First win was driving her home from ballycastle without her dying on me lol Apart from the sill and neglect shes solid. We bit of care and shell be like new.

From armagh myself. Yeah be game for that. Always nice spotting zeds out in the wild. Quite rare here.

Right lads. Now the sill is repaired and waxoil coated. The time has come to do the rest of the body while im this deep in.

Got the bumper off today and started into it. I might be going overboard but sure. First coat done anyway.

As willie from the simpsons said "grease me up woman!"

Cant do wheel arches until get them cleaned so might wait until taking shocks out and do both jobs at once.

Removed the front subframe cross member this afternoon after doing some painting in the house. We man is getting upgraded to a bigger bedroom so daddy is on decorating duty.

Quite rare looking so took the angle grinder to it and removed all rust from it.

Also looks like the front subframe is gonna have to come out. Absolute mess. But will kill a few birds with that job. Removal of exhaust. Engine mounts etc.
