For Sale Z3 & Z3M Tank Strap sets

I spent a few hours fitting the tank straps from Mazza this afternoon. They fit like a glove! Bit of wiggling the old straps out and wriggling the new straps in, but nothing too difficult. A tip from me is to make sure you release the handbrake before you fit the straps. You’ll need the flexibility to move the handbrake cable out of the way. Thanks mazza!

Had a potential new member at the ‘Lean-to’ this morning. He bought a set straps and asked if I could fit them. So couldn’t really say no.

I took the opportunity to check out the Z3M ones and it is fiddly and I think the canister will need to be moved out the way for part of the installation but it is doable.

The canister is obviously missing but I did connect up the canister strap ( currently on loan) to the modified strap and it all screws together. Not the simplest of jobs but I only had the car raised enough to remove the wheel. Probably easier if it was higher. ( still why should I make it easy for the M police =))=)))

Having checked that out I got on and changed over straps. Two hours in total, which wasn’t bad as the two main bolts were a pain to remove being rusted in and slightly rounded. Should be 13mmAF but ended up using a 1/2” and driving it on.
Also used a piece of wood to protect the tank and used a cutting disc.....much quicker :)

And swept up the residue..........

Once I have all the Z3M parts painted I will arrange to fit a set on Marks’ car ( @Althulas ) so I can work the order for the fitting guide.
Hopefully the kits are not too far away now.

I thought mine were bad but.........

Arrived this morning. We all owe you for the work you put into these, Thanks Again.

Got the parts back today and sorted out the kit for a Z3M strap.

Then put it together, ( not with nylocs for this test fitting) and compared to original.

Should pass the scrutiny of the M Police.....=))

The Block will be assembled with loctite, and I will probably cut down the lower of the two hook studs ( and treat the end), before shipping.

Will test it all out on a Z3M asap and update the fitting guide.

Hope there are going to be ///M badges on them :whistle:

That’s funny you should say that.........

Fitted the straps supplied by Mazza this evening. An hour and a half start to finish and I am a novice!!

Passenger side was very easy. It was the most rusty so it bent really easily to come off. Driver’s side was harder as it was rusted firmly on to the chassis. I used an oscillating multi-tool to cut the strap. I put a metal wrecking bar behind the strap to stop me cutting the tank and it cut it in 30 seconds max. Very easy. See the photo.

I would thoroughly recommend Mazza’s kit and don’t be afraid of fitting it yourself. If I can do it, just about anyone can. The straps are very well made, the service from Mazza was great and it all worked just as the instructions said it would.

Cheers Mazza,

I had a trip up to just outside Banbury today where I found a Z3M on axle stands by the side of the road........=))=))

Actually it was Marks’ car ( @Althulas ) and he has let me use it to test the Z3M straps on. ( and he did buy a set from me today

The result is that it is possible to fit them, albeit with a bit of fiddling, and a minor mod to the filter canister top lug.

But as the BMW straps are not available, and if they were, the rear end has to be removed....not a bad trade off:whistle:

I will write up an assembly guide, with some pictures, and if anyone wants a copy before deciding to purchase just PM me an email address and I will send you a copy so you know whats involved.

Mark helped me with the assembly today so please feel free to contact him to get his view.
(I will say that the underside of Marks’ car looks immaculate......all painted and new brake lines,)

This is the canister lug that needs modifying....trimming out some of the webbingl

The lower strap lines up with the thread in the block ( new screw not fitted in the photo, but will be supplied)

This shows the clash where the lower hook nut on the strap fouls the lug webbing.
It just stops the canister locating correctly

While Marks cars does have the rear beam removed, which obviously gave me a lot more access , having fitted the main straps on a Z3 myself, which are the same fitting as the Z3M, I can say it will be tight, but with the filter canister removed, there is enough access to get in and fit the additional parts if the assembly is done in the correct order.

If anyone has any questions , please contact me.

Many thanks to Mark and Martin(@Mnbrennan ) for all your help, without which, I would not have been able to do this Z3M version.
