I changed the tank straps this afternoon, really simple, a testament to the footwork put in by Mazza.
I was quite shocked as to the condition of the old ones, did the factory bother to paint them? SWMBO's car is in really good nick, but the old straps were failing badly, I didn't need to do any cutting, I just undid the long one and bent it a bit until it snapped.
Paint wouldn't be enough to protect them from 20+ years of salt and spray.

No matter what you use to protect them, they are doomed as soon as the coating is scratched.

Well, the car is a 2002 and is in very good nick underneath, rust wise. When the straps were unbolted, the paint was still perfectly intact underneath, and the bolts undid nicely, with clean sheradising still coating them, good enough to go again.
I was just a bit shocked as to how these components were so rotten while all that surrounds them is relatively clean and sound.

All the original batch of Z3 straps have now been sold, and 9 out of the modified Z3M version have also gone.

Currently I only have 6off Z3M sets available.

As a result of additional demand home and abroad,
I have placed a order today (and paid for :arghh::arghh:) for 50 more Z3 standard sets to be manufactured. I am hoping to have these early January , but with current problems may be a bit longer. All the other parts needed available within 7 days.

These will be at £70.00 plus 7.00 carriage (UK destinations) Due to Material costs and smaller batch qty ( sorry)

In the meantime, If anyone is really desperate for a Z3 version....I will strip down a Z3M set for you @ 75.00 plus carriage
( but It will mean there are two unused countersunk holes and different length studs)

Many thanks to all those that have bought them and all your lovely comments.

Does that mean you’re currently £3500 out of pocket? That doesn’t seem fair...

I have only just joined and dont have my car until Wednesday but its an advisory for my 2002 1.9 z3. So I dont want to take any chances. So would like a set please when available. MOT is due 18th February. Will the reorder be in by then please?

I have to say that I am well impressed with the work including testing you have done. Congrats on such an achievement.

Bit of an update....Parts should be going for powder coating by the end of this week....

So hopefully the painters will get their finger out and get on with them next week.

Thats great news. Picked up my 2002Z3 today. Drives very very well. Is it difficult to fit new spark plugs? Bit of a flat spot.

Is it the 6pot?
Sorry just seen your post further up, there’s a really good how to guide on Pelican parts, step by step with pictures. When in doubt I’ve headed there first.

4pot....
Plug 4 nearest the bulkhead is a bit awkward but overall quite simple.
Assuming you have the M44 engine twin cam as opposed to M43 single cam, use the tool to pull the plug leads off. Its under the plastic BMW shield and found next to plug 4 ( if its there....!!!?)
Slide it over the cap and pull !!!

When you pull the caps off , check to see it there is any oil sitting in the bottom by the plug. If there is , it may mean the gasket it weeping. ( and usually its plug number two if any)
