Nothing to do with the bodywork. If they left it standing for a while without the battery on charge and it goes flat they never seem to recover. Happened on every BMW I've had, once it's gone flat a couple of times and then left standing around for more than a day or so it struggles to start or won't start then it's time for a new one.

Been doing a couple of jobs whilst some parts are off the car, cleaned up the mudflaps and jacking point covers. Got the doorcards off, had a loose tweeter behind the grill that needed reglueing as well as part of the trim that came away. Whilst they are off I'll fix the material behind the speaker grill plus got a few parts to repaint myself before it all goes back together.

Also had a picture tonight, looks like he has got some paint and lacquer on the rear wings. Not sure if he has done anymore yet I'm going down tomorrow for a look.

Hi @g8jka I’m going to refurb the doors’s speakers when the door cards come off at the next ZedShed. What exactly do I need to get to make them look great, please?

A small bit of weed control fabric to go behind the grill and some black paint, matt, satin or gloss is your choice for the grill itself.

Cheers. Garden centre, then? Do I need to use a protective lacquer after I’ve spray painted? I think I’m going for a Matt finish which they are now.

Do you have a wee amount of weed control fabric that you would let me have, please? Any off cuts going to a good home, by any chance?

I didn't paint anything over the top, just the base coat itself. You could lacquer them for some extra protection but it would give them a glossy look which is not how they came out of the factory. It just depends on how you want them.

If not, there’s a small haberdashery shop I can pop to to see if it has anything that will do the job. Something closely woven but not to close that it muffles the sound.
 
Not much happened past few months, hardtop is back on as well as winter wheels. Had 4 new winter tyres fitted which seem to be performing ok so far, not had any snow to test them out. I fitted a new battery at the end of September. Not been washed since the end of October it’s looking sorry for itself.

It’s been sitting around for a few days at a time the last few months and I had to jump start it the a couple of weeks back. Went to go out again yesterday and the battery was completely dead, not managed to jump it yet and the trickle charger won’t get it upto 4 volts. Looks like this new battery is shot. I don’t know what is draining it but something must be, maybe the rear dash cam as it plays up and stays on sometimes. Got the old battery back on charge so hopefully that will see me through and I can sort what’s happening with this new one. If I leave it for a few days I must remember to leave the trickle charger on it. And I’ll give it a wash in the next few days!

Well I got it started today using the old battery after putting a bit of charge into it. Connected the new battery up to another battery with some jump leads and it gave it enough of a boost to get it charging on the right cycle on the trickle charger so hopefully by the morning I can try it back in the zed, start it and get some charge back into it and it may be ok. I just need to make sure I'm using it more often as it never normally sits around.

Forgot to say I gave it an oil change, new filter and fitted some spark plugs back in November. My dodgy idle has been ongoing for a long time after I thought I'd fixed it by cleaning the spark plugs but it soon came back. New plugs have made no difference either so thats a job for spring time. And I've noticed some condensation in the boot which I think is the 3rd brake light leaking, it was before I had it painted so I mustn't have put enough sealant back around the bolts when I refitted it. Another job to the list :(

Yeah, I've cleaned the ICV and checked all the hoses and can't see anything. Strange thing is if I clear the adaptations through INPA it goes away for a few weeks. I don't know if that points more towards a sensor, but I'm not getting any error codes. It started to happen not long after rebuilding the vanos and DISA repair so it may be one of these. I have swapped the DISA over with my dads, as well as the MAF and still get it.

Went to give the car a wash yesterday, started snow foaming Jemma's car and bang went the pressure washer :banghead: @gookah did such a good job on the drive he must have finished the poor thing off =)) Gave me an excuse to go and get a nice new one though, the old one last well but over the past 12 months has started to fail in a few areas.

Something tells me it could still be vacuum leak as that’s what controls your tick over but if it’s anything to worry about it should be picked up and shown with a EML. Been looking on the net but seems you’ve covered usuals.

Yeah it still points to a vacuum leak as no errors show, I've lived with it for a while now. Battery seems ok now, back in the car and it's been starting fine. As long as I don't leave it sitting round again all should be fine hopefully.
