The sum total of todays efforts.....
View attachment 231094
That was to add the wear sensor as it turned up this morning...
But it was too hot to do much more in the garage, even with the door open:whistle:
But that is now a complete assy and just needs to be lifted into position.....but just one or two bits underneath to complete then it can go back in.

But distracted in a nice way, as getting lots of interest in the tank straps from across the Pond
One set currently on its way to Denver, and another in transit to San Diego…. Plus two more enquiries that I’m sorting out now. ( these all being the Z3M version as they all seem to have the lower canister on whether an ‘M’ or not.

Oh….and I had to book a Speed Awareness Course…. ooops !!!! :arghh: :arghh: :arghh: :arghh:
Looking good Malc, at least you have a diff in your set up:thumbsup:

Was it an ultra low mileage one. . . . .?;)

Not really very far today… but finally got the brake lines in …. In an ‘ok condition’
Still need to fit two female connectors but pulled a muscle in my neck … and getting rained on…. So gave up and aim to get them done tomorrow.

Try and get the rear shocks done as well…. Then its the rear beam/ axle assy to be lifted up into position.

Now you take care of those muscles, I take my hat off to what you have achieved so far using just axle stands, I would hope you will have some assistance when you lift the subframe back in, don't pull anymore muscles. Brake pipes looking good, nice tidy job you made of those. So glad I invested in my scissor lift, not had to do anything major on my cars but its far easier on the human body not having to scramble under the car and faff about with axle stands. Onwards and upwards with the subframe Mazza.

Those brake lines look really good Malc, nice tank straps too;). Hope your back muscle doesn't give you too much trouble, perhaps a few medicinal beers are called for:thumbsup:

A bit of final spraying in the battery compartment
24575AFA-F966-4790-B339-06605E21E8CE.jpeg

All the old ‘ screws of doom’ removed … just used them to keep the threads clean while painting…. And checked new bolts fit ok
270466BD-F258-4DA1-B115-B224C7478301.jpeg

Then rolled the axle assy round into place

I was going to leave the propshaft and mesh it in as the beam is raised,

BUT…. I remembered what a nightmare it was on the 1.9 so …..
Rear part of propshaft removed

Now should be easier to hoist up into position

Cant do anymore till monday now…. Footy  tomorrow and Rockstar :whistle:duties on Sunday

But I have a willing helper at the Lean-to on Monday to help me lift it into position ( Thanks to @Alan Slade)

Question for @Lee or @GazHyde …. Is it ok to install the shocks first….and …..do the support plates for the shocks go underneath or inside the car??? These are new ( from @Rha ) and didn't have any fitted when I took it apart.

I think it was @colb suggesting the spiroband for the wiring… great idea will protect it from wearing..

I suggested split plastic conduit for the boot looms, would have also been good for underneath the car. On my Z4 where the brake lines emerge into the rear left wheel arch I slipped some split conduit over them to protect them from all the gunk that gets thown at them by the wheel. I did clean the pipes and paint them with black smoothright paint before putting the conduit over them. Split conduit offers more protection than the spiral wrap.

Productive morning,
Started with fitting the new shocks complete with additional support plates.
Then help was at hand as @Alan Slade arrived to help.
So much easier with two people….
and soon the rear beam assy installed and all it took was an Alan, a Malc and 3 Jacks….

Tightened up all the bolts then realised a minor error:eek:
3B818D77-F2F4-4358-B0FE-435E1501C2E8.jpeg

Connected the shocks and forgot the springs
so soon rectified:thumbsup:
57AD5945-E42B-4D71-892D-53FC2E0D2145.jpeg

The yellow stands are there just to support the trailing arms so they are not just hanging.

Handbrake cables fitted and noticed that they weren’t equal at the handbrake lever…. Is that right ??
9AEAACF7-06EF-4AA9-9643-9600227064CB.jpeg

Then time for tea and a sit down……

After Alan left, went to tidy everything and ended up spending a couple of hours cleaning and working on bits in the boot.
Tidied all the wiring and Installed a new aerial unit ( from Andy /spurs). And refitted the roof pump …. And no bits left over

….. and by the way Alan, found that door seal still in the boot, so will bring it over sometime
