Didn’t spend all day as planned… Had to go out and see some people about some gigs. ( no really …. Honest !!!!)
But did sort the new connectors underneath

And yes …. I forgot to put the connector on the second one before I started the flare. So cut it off and did it again..

Then it was the two rear lines…..not easy working upside down and on your back… but got the first one in ,, and after a few swear words got the other to more or less follow in parallel.

I havent done the flares yet as leaving it overnight to check the others dont leak.( removed the broom that had been depressing the brake pedal for about a year !!!!! ( as per @t-tony)
So far so good.
May finish the connections tomorrow… but My welder is coming round to hopefully sort out the rest of the rusty bits….. So I will continue to clean the diff with a dremel prior to it being sprayed with silver hammerite.

small steps….. but in the right direction….

….but even though they are about 100 miles away .. in my head, I can still hear Gaz and Lee taking the pi** 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.

And if they weren’t , I’d be worried !!!!

Getting a pair of new pipes to sit parallel is a dark art Malc but very satisfying when you do it. They look good.

Tony.

Waited for my welder to arrive today….but got a call to say his day had been a disaster !!!!
So said dont worry about my job if it helps..so now coming tomorrow … not a problem and didn’t want him putting a welding torch on my car if he was stressed ouf =)) =)) =))

Didnt fancy climbing around underneath today so worked on getting the diff ready for its disco ball silver finish….. Pretty much there now so may spray it tomorrow.

No drips overnight from the two connections I did on the brake lines so fairly confident I can get the rest of the flared ends done ok.

Actually looking forward to building up the beam/trailing arm assembly as its pretty much all new or powdercoated parts, so should be reasonably easy to put together. ( once I have greased up all the threads on the myriad of nuts and bolts:eek:

The car got some new metal today and after the welding I cleaned all the bits of the floor that had surface rust coming through. Fortunately it would appear that all this rust had started within the car rather than from underneath… so didn’t have to cut out as much as I originally was thinking. A new piece was fabricated to match the profiles of the floor and welded in …. Then I just tidied up and painted all the new metal and iffy bits with red oxide =)) .

Let that dry them finish off underneath with the black gloopy gloop, and will grey prime the inside then a coat of blue. Its under the carpet anyway so wont be seen:whistle:

Most of the rust was around the large drain hole….. might not bother to put it back …. All it did was cause a problem!!!!!!

What a Bloody genius !!!!! And they are different garages !!!!
Its a nightmare getting old !!! ( and now realised just why Tricia used to do the organising =)) )

Another couple of coats then turn it over. The hammerite spray is ok ….. but anyone want any silver strawberries or silver courgettes

edit…. And yes !!! I needed a brush to smooth out a few runs in my over exuberant spraying technique

5am was a bit of an early start buf the cat woke me up and couldn’t get back to sleep!! :arghh:

so out into the garage in my ‘jamas, and gave the underside another coat of the gloopy….
Then removed all the masking from the diff and put some bits back on it.

Mazza….what can I say…..

I didn’t see this post before and it has been like binge watching Netflix - I’ve read the updates, the dramas, even bought myself a set of super sockets (just in case)!!! Lived the high and lows and then was gutted at the end of “Usual Series 2” when the project was going to be scrapped… so glad its not.

It’s a brilliant post and very thorough and informative - this car is going to be awesome!!! Keep up the great work pal

Well … started to do some mechano today …..but didn't last long !!! :arghh:

was hoping to build up the rear beam assy but best laid plans dont take into consideration ageing muscles !!!!

Attached the beam to the diff and all ok not torqued yet as intended to do that when all the bits were attached…

May look a bit strange the way I am trying to build it up , but if I assemble it on the floor I will never be able to lift it to get a jack underneath to raise it into position.
The trailing arms are supported on the extended board ( once in place) and as is on wheels, I can roll it round under the car and my large jack fit in between the wheels to the lift the whole lot.

Did it this way on the 1.9 and it worked ok.

But trying to get the first of the trailing arms in , I couldn’t get it to line up and didnt have a third arm to ease it into place=)) so After trying for what seemed an eternity had to give up as could feel my back giving me signals ( like …….dont be a tw@ trying to lift all this !!!!)
I will work out a way to get it all together …. But not today

What I really need is someone really strong to help me get this fitted together…. Might give @pgunter a call……………and …ask him if Holly is free ??=))=))=))

Got some big stuff assembled today… Stinking hot… everything was heavy and not very easy to put together , which surprised me as I dont remember the 1.9 being difficult !!!

Looking at all those unwrapped wires in the boot, might be an idea to get some plastic split conduit to put them in, would certainly tidy it up and add some protection when they are back under the carpet, suitable sized stuff on ebay. Just used some on the after market parking sensors running from the front to the rear that a previous owner installed, they just strung the wires under the car and zip tied them which looked untidy and didn't offer them much protection. Nice and tidy now they sit in the conduit.
