I have now come to fully understand the term “Project Car”…….it means you can do nothing for weeks on end and not feel guilty about it just sitting in the garage =))=))

My other hobby as a Rockstar Superstar :whistle: has got in the way a bit after recently doing a couple of gigs….. the first for 25 years…..but so much fun and got some really nice feedback that I would like a few more while I still can……
Really crap getting old ain’t it:(

I really couldn't comment Malc. .................................. ;) Sure as hell beats the alternative though?

Had quite a few weeks now of inactivity.. the Rock Star bit got in the way...but after seeing Lee recently and being threatened with haviing the whole ZedShed crew come down and blitz the car, thought I better start doing something.....even though the alternative would have been a bonus......and Paul wouldn’t have to go so far for coffees=)).......

so tomorrow, depending on how much alcohol I get though tonight, I will embark on doing more work on the car.
The dreaded rear brake lines.......still ......they have to be done. I might reinstall the fuel tank now as well , especially as I have some more tank straps now........ currently 4 sets available if any interested :whistle:
No footy until Sunday this week, when I will be going down to Truro for an FATrophy game ( Truro v Bognor Regis Town), so should have the whole day on Saturday to work under the car :(.......

Further reports on my efforts tomorrow, which gives me time to think of excuses.........

Well today started with a massive hangover…. ( No one here to tell me when I’ve had enough =)))
Couldn’t even drive to the post office to send off a set of straps….. had to walk 😂😂

so working on the car was a bit of a no-no….. at this rate I will be losing my Zedlean-to status…. Lee, Tony and Niall will be down grading me to a Zzzzzbed……:whistle:

but I did spend the day doing car related work…As I had all the modified parts, I built up the last 10 Z3M tank strap sets…. Had an enquiry for a set so though I’d better get some ready.

Finally got out and did something today......not a lot but its a start....

The idea was to sort the brake lines, but that went out the window when I thought I better put the fuel tank back first.
But first I put back all the wiring and brake line clips.

Then because it was a pain getting the old tank out , I decided to remove the propshaft as it gets in the way.

This tank is the one I bought about 3 years ago when I was prototyping the tank straps, but its in better condition so decided to use it .....after replacing some of the cushioning pads ( used all the offcuts from the strap cushioning plus a few bits off the roll. )

Then just a case of putting it back ......what a struggle doing it on your own.....when I did get it in .....had to take it down again as I trapped the earth link

Finally got it back in and secure it with what can only be described as “a pretty good looking pair of tank straps” =))

Just to finish off I put back the rubber housing over the filler with drain hose ( that clips to the side of the tank)
And connected the two fuel lines.

And that was the sum total of my efforts today.... at this rate will definitely be losing my Lean-to status :(:(

After finding more rust problems, and a lot of soul searching….. I have decided to scrap the project.

At some point I will be removing all the new front end suspension and hub parts that were installed.
If anyone wants any parts, everything will be for sale and will be listed in due course.
Its a 1999 2.8 Widebody Z3 Roadster.

Thats a great shame Mazza after all the work and time you spent on it so far, we all gained a lot of knowledge from your excellent posts on the progress you were making, the pictures were always very good. Where were the rust issues that finally made you pull the plug on the project. Like @GazHyde suggestion of a Z4 project to replace the Z3 project loads of possible candidates out there.

Great shame after all your efforts, but sometimes enough is enough! Pity, my first zed was a facelift 2.8 in topaz blue, not that one, and I still regret selling it! Perhaps a new less daunting 'project' will be the answer. :thumbsup:

After a long lay off…. And thinking of scrapping the whole project…..( and after my kick start at the weekend at Zedshed HQ) ….. I actually got out and started looking at how I can get this finished….. Still waiting for some more welding to be done but got on with the ( for me) dreaded brake lines. However, armed with a new tool, it seems even I can make pretty good joints now

It seems to work really well in getting the end ready for the flaring tool that I have….

And before anyone says …….I am still a numpty……I know the fittings are not on the pipe…. These were just test pieces =)) :whistle:

But definitely more confident now that the pipes will have good connections:thumbsup:

Had a go at laying in one of the rear lines…. And decided not good enough so will redo tomorrow when I plan to spend the whole day just doing these !!!!
At least I have learnt a few do’s and donts today so wasn’t time wasted. I certainly want to have them looking tidier than they were when I got it. Installed by Stevie Wonder I reckon!!!=))

and after seeing the silver diff that Lee did recently ….. ooops going to copy it :whistle:
I dont know if @Lee will expect a royalty payment =))

My local shotblaster said he would need the diff completely stripped or he would destroy the bearings…..:eek::eek: so I will clean up myself and paint with silver hammerite

They actually look really good all silver.

Dropped Dave's crispy diff off to the coaters this morning really curious to see how it all looks.

Well the picture of the new pipe fitted looks ok to me would be pleased if my results turned out like that, with more practice I'm sure you will achieve perfection. What main tool are you using, got a picture?

Got it on ebay
Hand held as I have to make two connections under the car to the existing pipe.
You just screw the silver part ( the stop) into the block, insert the pipe from the other side to the stop. Clamp down the two 10mm hex screws. Then unscrew the stop and insert the black flaring part and tighten as far as it will go using a 17mm spanner. (1st op is indicated on it) This gives the std convex flare. Then if you need the concave flare, you turn it round and tighten it again. Then remove it, loosen off the hex screws and remove the flared pipe.

plus deburrer, mini pipe bender, and pipe cutter….. ( although I will now cut the pipe with a hacksaw or dremel and deburr the end.
