why did you not put the plug hole in the centre of the bowl, and just run a vertical pipe?
I'll show you when I use it, there are times when you can't get directly below the sump plug so it needs to be able to work "off centre". The reason I couldn't put the drain in the centre is because there are stiffening "ribs" underneath the bowl. It is after all the 1st incarnation ..................

Looking good, where did you find that fitting in the side of the drain container, noticed it can be sealed with a cap for transport.
It didn't come with that Col. The tube is quite a complicated affair. I used the 41mmOD tube and a length of 36mm tube which Gary gave me. The white fitting came from B&Q . The tank flange came from here,
I had to open the bore with a sanding drum so the 41mm OD tube would slide through it at a nice fit, this was the last part to be put in place using super glue and accelerator spray. The drain pan and pipe pulls out of the fitting in the drum (again a nice fit to allow turning under pressure) which allows the cap to go on for emptying the drum. It goes into the drain tube about 80mm, the tube inside the drum has a series of hole drilled in the side to allow the oil to drain into the drum.

Great work Tony. I would be a little careful when there is oil in the top container and none in the bottom one. The centre of gravity is very close to the edge of the bottom container, especially if the top is swung outwards. It looks like it won't take much for it to go over. Hopefully it will drain sufficiently quickly that weight will transfer the centre of gravity inboard. Some ballast on the bottom would help though - a carefully placed house brick.

Fair point Ian, but one I’ve anticipated and will be keeping an eye on, but bear in mind that the full 6.5 ltrs of engine oil is only coming out of a 15mm dia. hole and going down a 38mm dia. one so will not accumulate in the drain pan.Great work Tony. One thing I’m wary of of it the oil splashing back from the side of the pan and I am considering putting a “cover” over the part of the pan where the drain is. Provided the oil is warm and not super hot it shouldn’t be a problem.

I'd still be wary depending on how far the oil is falling - it will gain kinetic energy the longer it is falling so will apply a moment at the point it hits the pan. That might be sufficient to force it over.
The oil will only be falling a few inches Ian. The tank is fixed to the base which is 22mm MDF so it is quite heavy.
