Fair point Ian, but one I’ve anticipated and will be keeping an eye on, but bear in mind that the full 6.5 ltrs of engine oil is only coming out of a 15mm dia. hole and going down a 38mm dia. one so will not accumulate in the drain pan.Great work Tony. I would be a little careful when there is oil in the top container and none in the bottom one. The centre of gravity is very close to the edge of the bottom container, especially if the top is swung outwards. It looks like it won't take much for it to go over. Hopefully it will drain sufficiently quickly that weight will transfer the centre of gravity inboard. Some ballast on the bottom would help though - a carefully placed house brick.
I'd still be wary depending on how far the oil is falling - it will gain kinetic energy the longer it is falling so will apply a moment at the point it hits the pan. That might be sufficient to force it over.Fair point Ian, but one I’ve anticipated and will be keeping an eye on, but bear in mind that the full 6.5 ltrs of engine oil is only coming out of a 15mm dia. hole and going down a 38mm dia. one so will not accumulate in the drain pan.
One thing I’m wary of of it the oil splashing back from the side of the pan and I am considering putting a “cover” over the part of the pan where the drain is. Provided the oil is warm and not super hot it shouldn’t be a problem.
Tony.
