Z3's gone to Hospital

Wow that's really gone. Bet your chuffed now you've found it.
Feeling relieved at the moment, still a bit anxious but more positive. Happy to press on with the repairs and fingers crossed it will be back to its best soon. One big but, i don't want to part with it so when its back running i have to justify having 2 Zeds

Yes,you do mate. I couldn't.;) But, I know I made the right choice, yours is up to you.:)

Tony

Good news really then Paul as you've found the cause of the problem.
You don't need justification for two Zeds but if you do it's to halve the annual mileage on each:whistle:

Surely you need choice on a daily basis, as one day you NEED to drive a Z4 and another day you NEED to drive a Z3
=))

You've always loved your Z3 Paul.

I reckon you get it sorted and sell both and get a nice 2.8 or 3.0 Z3. Just to throw another option in the mix. :D

The Z4 is staying as instructed by the better half and for someone who has no interest in cars quite a statement.
My perfect scenario Z4 for cruises and Holidays with the Z3 for sitting in a field at car shows feeling proud.

Crikey that's properly blown through!!

There you go Paul.... justified

News from the engineering shop, Cylinder head pressure tested and OK plus quote for full head gasket set and head bolts cheaper than carparts4you. Being well looked after i feel.

Good news Paul, she'll be up and running in no time mate.

Tony.

Looking good mate. Be running by Monday

He didn't say which Monday Paul ;)

Tony.

Heads back on the car, New gasket and stretch bolts, all lined up thermostat in now trying to work out where everything else goes. As ever most of the work done by someone else with me in charge of catering. Can see light at the end of the tunnel but lots of ancillaries to piece back together.

Good news Paul. Not long now mate.

Tony.

Getting there Paul, not too much longer:thumbsup:

Good.stuff mate. You keeping it Now?

Good.stuff mate. You keeping it Now?
Couldn't possibly answer that question due to possible litigation.
Simple fact is if it starts and runs right after 18 months of concern it will be hard to part.
I have taken pictures of the engine and head before piecing back together, the inners look superb and would be could for a prospective buyer to view. Would sell for a decent price to someone who would use and enjoy but not prepared to let it go for peanuts. As said previously would love to keep both the Zeds but realistically bit too much of a luxury having 2 as well as the daily.
Never going to get money back spent but that's not what its all about, car means a lot to me and to the right buyer would let it go for a fair price.

Another busy day on the Z3. Had to order some new vacuum hoses and fuel line as not in good nick, should have ordered earlier but hey ho!
Almost built up just the new lines to fit, exhaust front pipe and cowlings. One possible problem found a two pin lead and dont know where it goes, one possibility is a lead for Vanos which it doesn't have as looks the same and is in the location it would be. Otherwise hopefully car will start and diagnostic will tell me what the problem is. Looks like 1 more full day will get it going, fingers crossed.
Looking forward to giving it a full detail under the bonnet but so far pleased with the new paint scheme
