Z3's gone to Hospital

Sorry to read this Paul, as you say good job you have the 4. Hope the news today is not as bad as you think;)

Brought the car back from the garage today, but no further forward. Cannot give me a diagnosis without stripping the top end of the engine as they say that's where the problem lies.
This is what came up on the diagnostic:
52 Misfiring cyl 3 relevant to exhaust
53 Misfiring cyl 4 relevant to exhaust
62 Misfiring, sum, relevant to exhaust
65 Misfiring with cylinder cut out cyl 3
66 Misfiring with cylinder cut out cyl 4
75 Misfiring with cylinder cut out, total
Any ideas guys and gals?

Best guess is valve timing issue, chain slipped/lost tension.

Tony.

Reading the sad news above I think Tony might be on the right track might explain the rattle and missfire the timing chain has lost tension could have stretched or slipped if it's been over reved or constant thrashing I know someone this happened to.
No mechanical expert just something I heard from someone I know similar symptoms it wasn't a Z3 I might add.
Good luck hope you get it sorted.
Regards Cliff.

obvious things plugs... then look at fuel filter, fuel pressure misfire could even be cam sensor...have you run torque and tried resetting ecu codes and driving a bit with it to see when the faults re- occur... try super unleaded fuel too... then have a look at injectors, you can monitor a load of stuff in torque while driving too they may give you a clue to whats happening

Oh dear it doesn't look good mate. You may have a decision to make soon.

Putting any decision on hold till after my Hols, but curiosity will probably get the better of me and take the head off.

Sorry to hear the bad news Paul, even more so when you trying to sell it,what a shame as it was a bloody lovely z3
Jimmy.

Check all timing marks and chain tension before lifting the head though Paul.

Tony.

Just done a compression test and re test because not good news both times Cylinder 1 & 2 plugs look good and a reading of 160, on both 3 & 4 plugs oiled up and no compression reading on either. :(

Best guess , head gasket blown between 3&4. Can you WhatsApp a bit of video of it running to me Paul if I pm you my mob. No.?

Tony.

Oh dear not sounding good mate. Hope it doesn't turn out to bad but the 1.9 is a bit prone to a head gasket blowing.
