Thanks Tony.

I wonder how they would look on an actual Zed. Or whether they'd fit now that i think about it

Last post today. Fitted the front number plate smack in the middle of the opening. It does four things:

Sits in a good place and is vertical. Stops me needing to figure out what grill suits it best while I enjoy the car in the summer :) lets me get the MOT to enable this. Allows me time to wait for my new registration bought at the weekend to be transferred and then decide where the shorter plate fits.

No show plates !

Hi Dave,

Firstly your car looks amazing, don't get me wrong I like the Z3, but there is something about the Cobra that looks smooth and excites me.
Secondly thanks for putting this tread on, its great to see what works is involved and sharing your hints, tips and experience.
Thirdly, excluding the kit body, donor vehicle, respray and wheels & tyres how much roughly did you spend on the vehicle? Did you find it difficult to source the parts? I struggling to find the grill for example.

I am planning to take on this project with my dad next year.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Hi Claire,

Thanks for the positive feedback. I’m happy to share info with you regarding sourcing of parts etc.
Cost of the vehicle does add up depending upon what finish you want. I really like the Z3 and would have one (a standard one) also if I could. But always hankered after a Cobra since my 20s. A lonnng time ago now.

This is a tribute to one and never will be one. But it is fun and gets good feedback when driving it.

If you are ok with a PM I’ll tell you more.

Dave

So latest pics of version 1.5. This car is being built in stages as time and motivation come in.

These are probably last pics before going to paint. Colour chosen and paint shop lined up. All I have to do before is get door cards out and sand off all that dodgy Matt black solvent based nastiness. Better get the elbow grease next week.

Thats more like it pal, looking excellent

Cheers Sean. I'm now nervous about driving the damn thing. When it was dirty black i was less concerned.

More pics to follow once i get rest of lights and fittings on.

Look forward to seeing them Dave.:)

Tony.

my last Z got peppered with chips in no time but I do have a bad habit of tail gating other Zs

Are you puuting a white stripe over it

No stripe on mine Sean. Ive gone for an older AC Ace or 289 Cobra style rather than the 427 look.

Time will tell if i change my mind. Either a white or even black stripe.

And i will stay clear of following Zeds with big tyres :) as soon as i get a couple of little marks I'll be less worried.

Its about driving them after all

You could always put clear protection film on the lower parts, not only to protect the paint but also the gel coat on the GRP as that is prone to chipping as well as the paint

A few pics taken today of the red #Kobra while it was sunny.

It’s complete for now. I will concentrate on tweaking the interior in the new year.

I am enjoying driving it. Even in this temperature
