Welcome to the Tribute owners on here. Yours will be the 7th in the UK. I believe another went to NZ.
Cheers! Can't wait to get the swap done and get it on the road. I have no doubt I will be coming to you all who've done this before for advice. Already read all of the body conversion threads on here and the Z300 threads over on Mad About Kit Cars.

Have you thought of “frenching” them? It’s where you sink the light below the surface, don’t have to go too far to lose the colour of a white or red light.
Or there are small 25mm “eagle eye” led that are super bright, I’m planning on asking the Mot station I use if they’ll accept one as a fog light, then mount it top right of the number plate. Really are daft bright little things, chrome or black surround.

Now that's an interesting idea. So they wouldn't be visible through the body unless they were on? I've only heard the term used for hiding metal in metal, like aerials in bumpers.

Couple of questions for you Z experts - have posted one of these elsewhere in the forum:

- I'm looking at replacing my driver's door as it's pretty knackered. Repairable but that would mean taking the car off the road or swapping the good one in from the second car, which I don't really want to do. Question is, would a 97 door (available for £50 near me) fit a 99 car?

- Has anyone done electrically folding mirrors on a Z3 before? I can't find any reference to such a conversion on the forum.

Parcel just arrived including a centre console so I can test out my double-din changes. This is the first test fit of my first rough print. Pretty pleased with it. Got some revisions to do and need to knock up the mountings and surround for the heater controls but so far so good.

If the lights you found are MOT legal in Spain they are here. We're using the same hymn sheet before we left the EU.
As said if the light unit was made for LED then they're fine. The problems come with mismatched light source and light units. Personally I dislike LED headlights, they are too bright.

Yeah my wife agrees with you. Will have to see how they perform and if they're blinding, swap them out.

Had a gut full of LED lights and the idiots behind them while in Florida for 8 weeks. Thing is, over there they do not have to have the aim checked at least once a year as we do here (after 3 years old anyway).

You can use anything for a rear fog light as long as it is considerably brighter than the rear position lights (side lights) and it has a tell tale warning light. My old boss utilised the centrechigh level brake light on the boot lid of his MX5 for a rear fog light. He just needed to add the tell tale.

The rules stateside - and particularly in Florida - seem to be...lax, based on the YouTube videos I watch!
We saw a lot of pick trucks around St. Augustine with just the front end raised, this appears to be a new “thing” amongst the brain dead. You can image what it like driving towards one of these creations at night Tom.

Tom, a wealth of spares can be sought from the nice people at

ClassicCoachWorks.org they have quite a few Zed in stock that unfortunately won’t be going back on the road. Give Ian or Belinda a call to discuss door opportunities. They also have just built a couple of ZGTCs recently so would be a good source of info and the kit when you are ready.

Ah brilliant. Ta! Though there's one just over in Merseyside for under £50 that I might bob over and grab if it hasn't gone yet.

Off at the in-laws for the weekend and daydreaming about the interior. The one in this car is cloth and a bit tatty. I could do a deep clean and restoration on it but it's probably not worth it and really I want leather. And I want heated seats. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the standard Z3 seats so I've been looking at alternatives. I know people doing other body conversions have used MG TF seats and those are quite nice but the first generation Audi TT seats have caught my attention. Classic looks and integrated heating etc.

I've searched the forum and can't find any reference to it, but I wonder if anyone has done this swap before? Is it possible to keep the BMW electric adjustment with the audi frames? And could you hook up the Audi heating elements to the BMW switches? I'm guessing it would throw faults because of different resistances etc.

Might just be something to experiment with as the Audi seats are really quite cheap.

Daydream over...
