If you can solder that would be better then a crimped repair, I did mine but the boot light doesn't switch off when the lid is closed, we had a forum member with similar issue and it set fire to his car, in the boot and behind the glove box

Just thought of something that I came across while sorting out the parts, which may be of use......

All the ZED’s have towing eye sockets on the front and rear, and hopefully would never have to use them. But the sockets on the car dont have caps so they get crap in them. As mine were on the bench, I tried to screw in the eye from the toolkit. Mine were really difficult due to corrosion, but after some WD40, and then finished off with some copper grease they are ok again. Worth looking at just to check.
I am going to find a plastic cap that will push fit over the socket to keep it clean and ready for use should it ever be needed.

Not a Z4, and therefore not worth towing, unless to the Undertakers. You ready Andy?=))=))

The switch is on the boot lid latch isn't it? Is the wire connected?

With the boot open just use a screwdriver to close the catch and the boot light should go out.

Another day and more stuff removed !!!!

Started by pulling all the plastic covers off, removed the plugs and carefully took the wiring out.
Got it this far and it got stuck.....

View attachment 92223

Then reallised I should have disconnected the loom from the holding clips :banghead:

Pulled it all back with some stiff earth wire removed the clips and then with a bit of jiggling got the loom out.
As advised by @Sean d , undid all the wrap ( most of which was falling off) and checked all the wires from down in the boot through to the plugs and other than an inline connector joining two wires everything was ok.

Once checked re wrapped the wires with electrical tape.

Didn't assemble the new boot lid as not sure if the paint shop would rather have the parts off the car.

One thing that was annoying is that the 3rd brake light lens had previously been damaged ( by some oik rounding off the hex head screws and plus it was held in with a black gloop
So I have lost my roadster decal as I cant reuse it !!!!! :(

Did you know you can fit a Z3 bonnet and boot lid into the back of a Kia Rio???????
View attachment 92225

You can when I get at it with an angle grinder =))

And its final resting place....our local tip
View attachment 92227

A good tip for anyone doing this in the future ......put something on the front bumper shocks as they bloody hurt when you walk into them.

Not a lot I can do now until the parcels with the new bits arrive.

I think that is all the stripping down complete....so every thing from now it will be putting it all back together:)
You can still get the Roadster decal on EB. Well done for getting this far. Hope you wont be too much out-of-pocket, although if you used the opportunity to make improvements, even better!!

@t-tony , will PM you re decal, but I have decided that it will be the last part to go on....and complete the rebuild:)

Not a great deal done today, other that a bit of painting and rechecking the Loom of Doom .....
just to make sure

But picked up the new radiator from Havant, so a job for tomorrow, and Sopers rang to say all parts now in and being despatched today. That means lots of stuff to do when they arrive.

A good day today,
A box of bits turned up from Sopers. Excellent service.

Got the new Camshaft sensor, cable guide and air pipe fitted, which meant I could get the inlet manifold put back.
Got the new radiator back in, with lots of the plastic ducting and air pipes and fan.
Hoses all done up but not filled the system yet as it means lifting the front and didnt want to do that yet.
Replaced all the rusty fixings and body nuts, and refitted the Power Steering loop with the new supports.

Cant put the air filter back in yet as still trying to find out about the foam lining material.
Email some questions to BMW technical, so may get an answer in a month or so !!!!

Fitted the rear anti-vibration weights to the brackets but realised not sure how they go.

If anyone can advise how they are fitted, that would be extremely useful:thumbsup:

Are they meant to touch the panel one end or be spaced equally off the bracket???

After that a bit of a tidy up :):)

Hi Sean,
Just so I am absolutely sure.....in the bottom picture, the two rubber buffers on the anti-vibration weight should be be touching the angled back piece of metal on the bracket. ?

I dont think so, you should be able to rock the weight both ways

Ok understand now, I’ll set them so the distance between the buffers and backplate on each weight is the same both ends, so there is the same amount of movement on the pivot bolt
