Well today is Saturday.....so normally football and alcohol......but as Bognor away and I cant make it, decided to wander into the garage.....
Had a sort out of every thing I have removed so far.........bloody hell where does it all fit?????"
Cleaned up a few items that had rusty bits and used a phosphate and primer undercoat.
Will be painted black later
Have sorted out the new radiator, but need the slam plate asap........so I can start the rebuild....

Here are the little bits that need replacing
E8DBB5B2-AB6E-4C90-9692-00DFA6DB335F.jpeg

Sent a list off to Sopers and had a quote of 65.00 but not all parts included but should have complete quote on Monday

Stop press .....hopefully will be going up to Woking tomorrow to see Andy (SFIAC) to pick up the slam plate and headlight.

Need to sort out a van and arrange bonnet collection from @Jjim

And need to arrange for a scrap metal dealer to collect old slam plate and bonnet
BUT.....
Feel that I am getting there.

And to be honest......I am loving doing this, its like I am 25 again, except in when getting up off the floor!!!!=))

So Sunday is meant to be a day of rest......so up early to go to meet Andy (@spurs fan in a coupe ) to collect a replacement headlight and the Slam panel.
Breakfast on the way back, in Godalming, the came home via A286 and saw about 15 Porsches queueing to get in a pub car park!!!
Just a thought........Do the 5 Zeds at Andys’ count as a spot??????:)

Had to check the fitting before going off to a walking football tournament this afternoon.....and perfect !

I was thinking of painting it but dont know what the colour should be. Its not the Arctic Silver....anyone know?

Decided not to go for the Angel Eyes and just keep it standard.

No not really. Other than working out how things come apart!!!!!
Also, I hadn’t realised the radiator had been damaged until I started stripping it down, which was a bit of a pain, but I fitted it about 6 months ago so I know to assemble it and bleed the system, once I get one!!!
Havent started on the rear yet so dont know if any of the plastic fixings are damaged. Probably start on it next week.
The only thing which may be an issue is re fitting the bonnet and getting all the shut lines even.

A bit further forward today.....
Stripped off all the fixings and cleaned off some surface rust from the new slam plate and took it with the old one to a local paint shop. Made the decision to get it resprayed so it all matches in.
They are going to colour match from the old panel so I am sure it will be a perfect match when its done.
Will be ready for me to pick up next Saturday.
They are also going to do the respray of the bonnet and bumpers later when I have everything ready.

They did a brilliant job on my Kia......(.or as per the official statement... there was never any repair done, I didnt reverse into a bollard so there was no reason to have it resprayed.. It never happened !!!!=)))

Just sorting out an order with Sopers which hopefully will be placed by the end of today.

And the Power steering loop is now looking brand new with its new paint job.

O yes......and the claim has been completed as I received the compensation cheque from the third party insurance company.

Another day in paradise !!!!

Took the fan belt off so I could clean round the oil filter casting. Years of crap removed.
Before

After

And so to the rear end of the car.....
Got the bumper off, without removing the wheels or wheel arch covers. Bit tight working to get the two top plastic clips out:) and pulling the bumper off, but did it....
..but did have fun trying to balance it with one hand and unclip the wires for the number plate light.....

(I think for reassembly, I will probably have to remove the wheel arch covers as will probably have to adjust the brackets to line up shut lines)

First thing I noticed was that the N/S rear bumper shock rattles like a marble in a bucket!!!
I am sure that it shouldn’t be like that, but would like confirmation.
The bracket was fixed and tight, and the corner weights, other than rusty are ok. Will get a wire brushing, rust treatment and black topcoat. Will look like new then

The O/S one will rotate but it quite stiff so assume that this is correct.

What a pain to remove them, had to take out plastic stuff in the boot, as 5 of the nuts are hidden under carpets etc.
Anyway they are both out now

Surprisingly, the adjusters were not seized, so I removed them .....just because I could !!! :)
And this is what they look like
153D467E-DFD0-4434-A9E1-051A7EE146D4.jpeg

They are only threaded one end, so I will clean them and reassemble the O/S shock unit with copper grease.
If anyone has a N/S shock unit ( the one with the towing eye thread) please PM me with a price.
EDIT....Sorted by SFIAC, collecting saturday :):)

Bumper has a small split in it which may be repairable but I will strip it down and check it all over.
Boot lid does have two dents on the left hand side, so may replace it ( luckily had an offer of one )

Had the Sopers quote for all the engine and front end bits and pieces....£130.00, and all the parts ordered today
Now I have to start making another list for all the rear end stuff.:banghead:

Not much I can do at the moment so may as well do some cleaning up, and checking for any other damage.

When you put the bonnet back make sure it’s lined up correctly, as it can catch the top of the doors.
Ask me how I know:(

Great job though, keep up the good work, it will be back on the road in no time.

Just boring stuff today.....Cleaning :(

Stripped down the rear bumper, and cleaned both aluminium bumper support with a wire brush. Didnt use the electric drill in case it was too aggressive.
Might prime and paint but they are in pretty good condition for 20 years so may not bother as they are never seen !

B428EF0A-A444-4AF8-B1B1-04BCFC2465AE.jpeg

The rear corner weights needed a bit of a clean so used the elctric drill and a wire bush to remove crud and then painted them with a rust treatment. Tomorrow I will use an anti rust primer , then paint them black, but they already look a lot better.
Before ....

After just rust converter...
5ACEBFE6-726B-4286-8BCE-995637A814E9.jpeg

Just as well I have been taking pictures as these are different and I hadnt realised until I was painting them with the rust converter.
At this point I remembered that there were beers in the fridge......so just did some tidying up, put all the tools back so I will be able to find them
DB95C847-FFCA-4C7A-931C-6985117AD78A.jpeg

At the moment just putting all the damaged stuff on the floor until I have all the replacements so I can confirm I have the right parts.
It will be interesting later on if all these dishes end up empty....in theory they should
B206DFDF-B480-4C64-AA21-DCF90039F3C1.jpeg

a few
Cleaned the bumper covers and the good news is that they can both be reused. All the lugs etc are intact so with all new fixings should line up ok
The front one had some marks/scuffs in the paint finish, and the rear one has a few marks and a small split that can be repaired.
9AFFD856-9230-4633-91A5-A29C1DD8C34C.jpeg

The boot lid however is scrap......but many thanks to @Ryan atkins who recently joined the forum, who has offered me a replacement.
Just got to sort out the trip up to @Jjim to get the bonnet, and then I think all the parts are covered.

Also sent the second list off to Sopers for all the fixings for the rear end parts. I have been dealing with Neil who has been really helpful.

It will be nice to start putting stuff back on the car instead of keep taking bits off =))

Following with interest, great work so far. It's great to see the Zeds partially stripped down and then soon enough all rebuilt again.
