Hi Kev, The new brackets look smart. You have done a good job in designing a bracket for the Type 1 deflector. If you no longer need the original lock cylinders with keys, I would be happy to buy them from you. Kith

Hi Aussie, sorry I didn't get back to you, been busy. My deflector had no locks, but looks like Kev can help you out. JIM

Hi Kev, I have placed a message to you as a Profile Post. I have not figured out how to send a PM yet. Please respond.

Hi Jim, Many thanks for your offer. I guessed that your car would have a later type deflector with no locks. - Kith

The deflector by cabriosupply appears to be the modern replacement for the original Type 1. Not clear if it can be folded when not in use and with the hood up.

I have never folded my wind deflector down with the hood up and leave it in place when the hard top is on as I find it cuts out head light glare. (Type one)

Finally overcame my fixing probs so going to leave it there all the time does not affect soft top operation so why remove,as you say cuts out headlight glare

The photos of the mounts indicate that the deflector does not fold. But the mounts have big knob screws for quick removal of the deflector, and the photos indicate that it will store in the trunk. I emailed cabriosupply to ask if they could make a deflector with a tan frame and binding to match the tan Z3 interior and top (hood). Their "cream" color is way too light.

Thanks to Kev, I have finally been successful in installing the original type 1 wind deflector on my car:

After Kev modified his wind deflector brackets, he kindly sent me the top brackets with lock cylinders. Unfortunately his lock cylinders did not fit the bottom brackets on my car. I found that the original lock cylinders on my car are slightly longer and has locking lug of different shape:

I then installed my lock cylinders on to Kev's top brackets and got a locksmith to cut keys for my lock cylinders. Thanks again.

The following photograph shows how the lock cylinders fit into the fixed brackets:
