Indeed. Though my issue was differant and he blew the swarf out with an airline that's why he told me to get rid I suppose.
I believe they coat the tap with a heavy grease which picks up the bits as it's cutting. Seems to work to keep the shards from falling into the cylinder when they retap spark plug holes. HTH JIM
Apply a liberal coating of general purpose grease to the thread tap and do it in stages, cleaning and re-greasing the tap each time. You probably won't catch 100% of the swarf but enough to be ok.

If you go the "air" route then you need to minimise the pipe on a vacuum cleaner down to a small plastic pipe, ie. windscreen washer tube and suck the bits out.

If the guy doing Dave's injector is retapping a "clamp" bolt which holds the injector into the head all he needs to do is plug the injector hole with rag or paper, or even leave the injector in place.

Right, we're back and all is sh*** again! While we've been away my neighbour has reseated the injector which his says went well and is more than happy with it. The problem is now that the car is blowing the dip stick out when revved. He's now thinking it's the rings or valves on the same cylinder. I've not had a chance to speak to him as we've got back this afternoon and he's away this week with work. If it turns out to be one of these what sort of bill can I expect if I get it done? Or do i just palm it off and cut my losses?

Only thing you can get him to check mate, is that the crankcase breathing system is all clear. I've had this even on BMW diesels when warming oil for smoke test they have pushed oil out the dipstick tube.

Thanks mate. He's not around this week, is this something I could check easily? We need to move quickly one way or the other with this as Jue hasn't got a car at the minute as we daren't run it, she has to keep borrowing Jacks to get to work which isn't ideal.

I've just had a look online abut crankcase breathers being blocked and it appears to be based mainly around heavy smoking which it's done occasionally but it's not all the time.
I've managed to speak to my neighbour who has told me he has checked all the breathing system around the crankcase and it's all as it should be. He is convinced it''s internal. He's told me not to move the car as it's spitting oil all over the engine bay out the dip stick. He's back tomorrow night so he's going to talk to me then on what to do next.
I have a 77 Porsche 924 that was doing this but it was due to engine flooding so bad it filled the oil pan. Maybe your engine is leaking fuel past the rings and doing the same?? Still working on why mine does this! JIM
Dave I think the time has come to part with it. It seems like it's going to cost you quite some dosh to get it fixed. Cut your losses and get rid.
Could have a chipped or damaged valve mate, which is allowing exhaust gasses into your engine.
