Not on Diesel engines as any oil going into the combustion chamber is fuel. Can cause engines to rev up until the explode. Not used on modern petrol engines too much . If the breather was a common failing someone would stock it.

I thought all engines diesel and petrol had crankcase ventilation back via the engine now as an emissions control to stop oil and by-pass gasses being vented directly out. Its probably because it's usually so reliable that it's not considered when engines do odd things. If it is that it's a cheap fix except for labour compared to a compression issue.

They do Ian, on Diesel engines there is the exhaust gas recirculation valve to re-burn the exhaust gasses, which is a very common source of woes, added to that they now have "cooled EGR" valves to further complicate things. What I meant was they cannot have any means of oil vapour or liquid entering the combustion chamber because it is a fuel so it has to be separated and dried before being re-burned.

Well to close this thread down, we had piston 4 confirmed as failing/failed so we advertised it explaining the issues and a guy has bought it with the intention of putting an engine in it. To be honest I'll be glad to see the back off it and I won't be buying Korean again that's for sure. Never had so many issues with a car. In 6 months it's had a slave cylunder, master cylinder, two injectors and then a cylinder go. Lesson learnt me thinks! Thanks for everybody's help and input, it's much appreciated.
