No this one is fine Dave, it's aimed at being a bit more positive than THAT thread...

16 hours fasting, 8 hours eating each 24 hour period. 16 hours is the minimum time you should fast for.
Thanks @Davyhoogy I might try this. I don’t want to go shopping and it may be a way to avoid it. What do you reckon?

This is intended to share ideas and tips such as substitute toilet roll idea and how to make our food go further @Grumps .

All ideas are welcome as we face this emergency together.

If you like mobile apps, the look up Zero Fasting Tracker. Teaches you all about IF, and then acts as a timer/tracker of where you are so you don't lose track. For me it makes me more disciplined, when the app is tracking a fast I don't snack.

Thanks: I’ll look it up. It sounds an interesting concept and if it helps supplies go further, I’m all for this.

Only in the respect that it makes you more aware of what you're eating and when. I've found it's helped my relationship with food so that it doesn't control my life like it used to. It encourages me to stick to my set meals, and generally overall I feel less hungry - so no need to snack or overload the plate. Takes a while and some will power to get in to it, the first week or so I'd look at my evening meal and think will that get me through 16 hours, but it always has.

Good advice @GazHyde thank you.

A mid-afternoon reccie into my rather Wintered garden calls so I’m spending a few hours having a mooch and an initial tidy. I’ve just watched two episodes of Monty and he’s inspired me to venture forth into my garden.

I have some seeds for various veg so I’m looking at starting to grow-my-own as food is an issue and no-one, including the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, knows when this virus will peak. I know it’ll be 3-4 months before I have any produce but I’m looking forward to this.

Happy gardening!

Hope you've got your compost bins up and running, there's far too many people throwing away perfectly good stuff when it could be put to good use.

I'm going to do something I haven’t done for many years and that is grow some tomato plants in grow bags. If I can get some. You can also grow cucumbers and lettuce in bags too.

Tony.

And they taste so much more delicious than shop bought ones.

I normally grow tomatoes and find them very easy to grow from seed. I have to get some though and am going to venture out to the supermarket beginning with an M to see if I can get some seeds.

If we can grow our own, all the better.

I’ve not tried to grow cucumbers or lettuces before so any tips would be appreciated. I’ve grown courgettes and potatoes before and am thinking of carrots, onions, garlic, lettuces and tomatoes for this attempt.

If you don’t have a garden, you can use pots to grow potatoes, tomatoes, parsnips in. Someone else on here might have some more ideas, too.

Cucumbers need a lot of support from above, in a polytunnel that's easy, outside it comes down to a bit of improvisation. Lettuces? Slugs and snails love 'em. Could always send them round to @t-tony s, sure he won't mind.

Used to have two bins, one to fill while the other sat and rotted down. Takes a good six months to be ready, and doesn't need to be topped up while it's doing its magic.
Interesting: I have an active bin and one I have yet to start off. That’s on my “To Do” list for tomorrow. Thanks for the tip @the Nefyn cat

So, a supporting stick alongside or what from above?
