#ZedShed Project - Vixxen (track car)

@t-tony .. I am referred to as captain slow by @GazHyde @Lee and a few others.. :dog::racecar::racecar:

Wellllllll......you do need a turbo V6, DSG and Quattro drive just to get going...it’s like PlayStation driving :computer: :bag:

Anybody can be fast in an Audi, but try the same in a Z3, especially when there are roundabouts involved :whistle:
Or an MPV for that matter!

:poke::poke:

That @Dino D ... is just scandalous... you forgot it’s 3.0 V6 Tdi Quattro and it’s a manual... not a DSG..

@Lee how do you know that.. you were too far behind .. they would be red by the time you sorted your sideways movement out. :whistle:

Following on from the 2.8s demise on the Nordschleife it's only fitting to carry on the engine swap thread here.

So I'm going to attempt and get the car ready for Vanity but it might be difficult as I have an offshore trip in the middle.

Last saturday went extremely well considering the 34* heat me and Gaz had to work in, we also shocked ourselves in removing the gearbox and engine in 3 1/2 Hours flat, that even included stripping the engine bits.

Also while I was on the ring the gearbox seal decided to let go and start dripping, typical aye!

So the plan now is to fit an M54 3.0 lump, if none of you are aware the TU and M54 lumps are virtually identical. To speed up the swap I'm going to use all the 2.8 gear including inlet manifold and engine loom and just run the 3.0 lump on the current mapping. In theory the only thing that should of changed is the stroke. Also this 3.0 lump has just been built and the bloke is taking the 2.8 lump in exchange, he likes to turbo the TU units. This 3.0 is also ready to take a turbo at a later date so watch this space.

My garage looks like a scene out of scrap heap challenge =))

I have a bunch of 3.0 bits including manifold etc. If your looking for bits.

Good work BTW

I’ll have to buzz you about those bits. I’m using the 2.8 bits just to see if I can get it ready for Vanity in time.

Well done, you certainly pulled all the stops out, must be more experienced now than a lot of main dealer boys as regards the Z3. Hats off to you both.:thumbsup:

Roy;)

Well past that stage Roy, very few dealers will see a Z3 Now, or even a Z4 for that matter.

Tony.

Blimey that was very quick. Loving the pics and this thread. If you’d have known the 2.8 was going to let go would the conversion from 2.2 to 3.0 have been easier Lee (similar age and variant). Just being a nosy armchair mechanic.

Your totally right it would of. At the time I had rotten 2.8TU Z3 sat outside so I thought I would make use of the engine. So far everthing has been plug n play you just need to put some thought to it. So for me at this stage it's just making sure your using the right engine loom depedning which unit you use. You coul swap your 2.2 unit for a 3.0 very easily.

Lee is the diff still from a 2.2? :racecar:

Yes mate. Going to be silly with the 3.0 lump. Might have it running this weekend ;)

At least you won't be working in a sauna this weekend Lee. Still warm but nothing like last Saturday.

Tony.

Tell me about it. Me and Gaz nearly died last Saturday. My neighbours felt sorry for us and bought us ice creams. :D
