Got to have stiffened up the motor mate, more likely that than the Flywheel I would've thought, they're usually very well balanced.

Great news on the cam sensor Lee. As for just you and Gaz there, sometimes you do get more done with less distractions if there's only one car to focus on. Well done both of you.

Tony.
What you trying to say pops? o_O=))

The first thing I noticed when I got in was the slight vibration you could feel, I'm guessing that's the single mass flywheel and the race mounts.
This is the race mounts, had the very same feeling on mine.

Cheers guys, what will also be fun is the two huge boxes of odds and sods to shift. So many buttons, trim dials you name it I have it.

I remember Zedonist saying after he got someone to complete the conversion on his M44 1.9 that it revved much more freely.

Tony.
I drove his Zed after he had it fitted and it really picked up well for sure.

The clutch sounds like a great upgrade and not noisy / difficult to use in traffic like some full on race units?

I swear my car reads the forums and get ideas - my clutch has been fine for 130k miles but now slips when two adults are on board...was very occasional glbefore but now with extra weight onboard it slips...so either I ditch passengers or do the logical thing and save and upgrade...

Have you got the raised rev limit on this too - must be quite a different feel to stock?

Just another small update: I've been using the zed for commuting to and from work to iron out any issues. Only issues I've found so far are the slack I left in the propshaft causing to much clonking. So one job this weekend is to drop the exhaust the load up the centre bearing, my fault for the way I fittd it. Also the rev's hang a little between shifting, I've already cleaned the ICV and TB on assembly so that leaves the throttle cable to change.

Other things happening in the background: the M bumper being sprayed, it's ready to be collected. Same guys that did the velvet body work, they had to spend a few extra hours plastic welding various cracks out but this was expected being Martins old bumper. Also dropping in the hardtop for paint. The Zed is also booked in for monday custom exhaust from manifolds back. Idea being to take it to one pipe and use one cat, I've mapped out the post lamda sensors so they wont be in the way also a huge weight save.

The zed handles amazing as always, one big thing you notice is how quick it picks up in the mid range the diff ratio really does make a difference. The clutch is really light and makes a hell of a difference. The only draw back is a little extra vibration which you dont notice after a while.

Still loving this thread. A 2.8 with 2.2 gearing must be quick off the line

What's happening to the old lump gents?
Removing good stuff and binning the block?

It's in one piece sat on an engine stand, I had every intention of doing a couple of vanos removal workshops but my work load picked up again.

Engine has it's ancillaries and loom if anyone wants it. 125,000 on the clock.

Thanks Lee, I was considering buying some engine cover spares for my 2.2 to try a paint job on.

So if the motor was going to be trashed I would have made an offer. Just a speculative message :)

Dave

Looking forward to seeing the Vixxen mk2 sometime

I have a spare set of engine covers, happy to send them if you want to try.

So she's driving well just a few niggles to sort, I have the dreaded driveline clunk that seems to plague most 2.8s & 3.0. I can't stand those type to noises, so I got under the zed again today and had a good look over everything. I found the gearbox to be at fault I have nearly quarter of a turn in play.

We have two gearbox's on the Z3's 1) Getrag 1.9s, 2.2s etc
2) ZF - Used in 2.8s & 3.0s as well as the Z3M

I have a spare Getrag Box from Sam's 2.2 engine so that might be the way to go, but does anyone know if its been done before ?

The bolt patterns are the same but I will need the matching prop and linkage which I already have. Or do I rebuild the gearbox.

This is my issue:

That's a crazy amount of pay Lee. I Wilkes have thought that possible from the gearbox unless it's missing teeth
