#ZedShed Project - Vixxen (track car)

Huge update, both me and Gaz have been so busy so this update is two weeks worth.

First load of photos show a quick engine bay clean up and installing some race engine mounts (stops the engine rocking under hard use), while I was there thought it would be an idea to remove the clutch delay valve (slows down the clutch engagement) and also fit a braided clutch line.

Clutch delay valve next to one I removed from the Z4 Coupe.

This mod with the braided line and race clutch/light flywheel should give it a real crisp feel.

Next we lined up the engine and slid her in, must of taken us 15mins.

We also managed to slid the engine in with the air con pipework intact along with the power steering pipework the other side. Saves a lot of time.

We then bugun refitting the engine loom and making sure it was laid out in the right places. At the same time we fitted the slam panel.

This weekend just gone we only had a few hours to do before first turning the key, we had to change the fuel rail and move the 2.8 injectors into the system. We also plugged in the EWS delete ECU so we had no security system to worry about. We nearly got a start first time but we spotted the crankshaft sensor missing its connection, after that she fired first turn of the key. She sounded like a german bomber because we only have the manifolds on. Also sounds like we might have an air leak as she didnt want to rev, that said we only have half the engine loom plugged in.

Over all well chuffed :D

Just want it ready for the first round of zed meets. We’ve only be playing Saturdays 10-3 so it’s taking longer. It’s also giving me a chance to order bits that are past it along the way.

Brilliant bloody brilliant

nice work bet you cant wait to get it up and running... well done all involved...

Yep that exhaust sounds spot on, just right. Don’t bother with rest of the silencer, oh no :D

Great work lads. Really enjoying the thread

Didn't take many pics today, but there is a bonus video for you all :)

Today was mainly about snagging, tidying and just getting Vixen put back together. We some technical hurdles to overcome though.

First off she wouldn't start, and it took us a little while longer than it should to figure it was a faulty battery. No issues with Vixen's current battery before, and we switched it to the battery out of the Sienna donor car which again showed no issues. Finally we grabbed one out of Oldguysrule's 2.8 and she fired immediately. Bit frustrating to have 2 faulty batteries on hand I guess, but that's life.

There were also differences in how the throttle works between the 2.8 and the 2.2, with the 2.2 being fly-by-wire. However the changeover was pretty easy, removed the 2.2 pedal assembly and the potentiometer which does the FBW bit - then connect the throttle cable to the top of the pedal assembly. I figured I could have done this without removing the pedal assembly once I'd taken it apart - ho hum!

Lee was busy bleeding the clutch system, fitting the prop shaft and hanging the old exhaust in place so we could run the engine for a while without annoying everyone in a mile radius (engines are loud without exhausts!). Lee has some research to do this week as it looks like we have a faulty sensor somewhere in the mix causing the EML light to come on. Could just be a sensor, or possibly something to do with the custom coded ECU.

Next weekend should be the final assembly session putting the front end back together again (bumpers, lights and so on)

Final thing was to drive her under her own power in to the parking space.
