Total cost for the stainless steel tubing, argon gas and stainless welding wire was around £100.
Bypass valve and switch was around £35.

Preventative or is the floor on it way out?

It was to future proof it, but I don't think that it's needed. I welded my floor back when I first got the car (2010) and it hasn't failed since.

I seam-welded across the joints between the boot and the floor, rather than the limited number of spot welds that BMW applied :)

I agree with the guy from Yorkshire that we both know ;), that just chucking lots of metal at the problem isn't the best solution:). That's why it's been on my garage floor gathering dust for the past five years:wideyed:.
 
That's an impressive list of jobs Pingu. Whats the exhaust valve do? Open up that branch of the exhaust? How is the noise?

I didn't know you had contributed to the Forbes retirement fund :rolleyes: Think your fix should be ok so its a big job to fit for maybe no gain?

Yes, it works as a town-friendly car with the valve closed and as a monster with the valve open. It's perfectly safe because there is a cross-over pipe.

The comment from some bikes that I passed was "By 'eck, that's jolly loud. old boy", or something like that - I couldn't hear them properly:whistle:

I'd consider this as a strut brace, but without the trestle. The downside is the added weight. I'd probably use an aluminium strut. I think that it could be hidden quite easily. The solution that I had in mind is not as good as it would infringe the hood space.

I'd need to measure the twist in the car to see whether ANYTHING is required and WHERE to spend my effort before I do anything, though.

I'm starting to think that brake mods are what I will need soon:wideyed:.

Flow rate was improved from 444cfm @ 28” H2O to 485cfm @ 28” H2O....

After driving 61 miles in 1000 days, Bluey is MOT'd.

Photos have been sent to the insurer for the guaranteed value to be confirmed, and then it will be taxed on 1st May, ready for it's next adventure.

That's the plan. After 60 miles in nearly three years, what could possibly go wrong? =))

Well it's managed 60 miles so better than someone we know =))
