I manage to pick up a scrappy alternator. I got it in tonight after work and heypresto, no more lights on the dash.

The 3rd brake light is fubar and most likely needs replaced. The side repeater is green with corrosion but the meter is picking up ~6v. Pretty sure it's just my cheap meter not being fast enough to see the 12v. I think I'll source a new bulb holder and see.

I got told by the parts shop that the fog light was an h1 but its an h7. I'll close that out tomorrow....

Out with old

The belt was holding on by a thread.

In with the scrappy bit and new belt

Light free dash... perfect!

The 3rd brake light isn't testable item so don't worry about that. The tester can only advise that it isn't working.

Thanks for the tip Tony. I'll try and source a new/used PCB but it's good to hear its only an advisory. I am going to try and get the car in for a test on Friday and see what happens. Hopefully ive caught everything by then. Fingers crossed 🤞

The test is booked but I can't get it in until the 29th. I guess I've got more time to mess with it

The chocolate block brake light is doing the trick. The loom at the bootlid seal is fubar. It also explains the central locking not working from the boot. A job for when it's legal

The zed got a run up the farm road as a pre mot shake down. The rear nearside brake looks to be binding and the handbrake isn't really working. The abs pump is pulsing under hardish braking, only issue is i wouldnt say it was anywhere near locking up, could this still be air in the system?

I've got tomorrow night to try and work out the issue. The car is back in the drive whilst this storm passes. On the plus side everything else seems to be working.

The car definatly doesn't have much poke about it but it sounds fruity with its period remus exhaust haha

ABS pulsing most likely to be reluctor ring broken, which leaves a gap wider than all the others.

Thanks Tony, I'll have a double check tomorrow that everything looks right. It's all new bearings and sensors, admittedly the sensor might be autodocs Keanest priced. 🤞

I've decided I am going to borrow the e30 water jet pump and see if I can sneak it in before today's test haha

What do we think, close enough or wasting my time?

Before putting a new washer pump on it try cleaning the filter that sits in the grommet at the bottom of the tank where the pump goes in. I recently put new pumps on a 20 yr old Fiesta and the Z, neither made any difference and it turned out that both filters were gunged up. A good clean and both were fine and worked just as they should so I now have 2 spare pumps!

Ps hope the MOT wasn’t too painful

Cancelled MOT,

The plastic pipe on the block for the coolant pipes decided to blow mid mot...

Email to bmw for replacements hopefully or I'll pinch on off the other engine. It was going well haha

He said it wasn't threatening to overheat just old plastic and the part was still in the clip in the rubber hose.

At least it happened there instead of at the side of the road..

Not sure how far they made it but definatly not as far as emissions
