Carrying on with the lower front wing panel transplant. This pic shows how the lower panel connects to the original z3 brackets and how the inner bits of the bonnet and lower panel sit together when the bonnet is closed. There's a gap so they don't rattle against each other. Couple week's work and still not fettled. But I like where it's going.

When you remove all the external metal body panels from a z3 the monocoque is still intact and waterproof - or at least as water proof as a z3.

So no. The way the grp panel is bolted to the metal is the exact same place as the original metal ones. So no where for water to get in that didn't get in already.

My side grills are a work in progress at the moment.

I've created pockets in the wheel arch similar in style to the originals.

I'm using clear bmw z4 side indicators with orange bulbs. I keep to-ing and fro-ing with the bright work for the side grill. I tried plate stainless steel but struggled to get the look I was hoping for so have gone back to the drawing board.

Really like your bonnet mould concept. Going to have a look at my old front bumper at the weekend.

I'd be really interested to see how you're planning to do the bumpers if you're not planning to go down the Vietnamese bumper route.

I'd thought about it....just looking for a cheap top to butcher. I thought that there'd be more to come off under the rear window. I appreciate that you may still have some scribing to do.

My car is sprayed so I'd need to stick cardboard on the rear tub to protect the paintwork while fettling.

Hardtop is fibreglass.

My car has always been all year all weather and I really liked z3 with hardtop so determined to get it on.

I wish I'd rested the roof on the car and marked out what to cut. Would have been more accurate. Instead I just measured and did some guess work and in some places cut off too much and others not enough. I need to go back round chopping more off. Once I can lock the roof down I can start adding GRP to build it up again. I'll post once I get to that stage.

Do you know about the Sharpie trick?

Lay a Sharpie on its side and roll it (or drag it) along the horizontal surface and it will mark the edge to be cut on the vertical surface.

I see in the pics that your car is sitting high as well. Do you have plans to lower it. I've currently got 85/90mm between the top of my tyre and the outer arch. Yours looks similar. I'm looking to lower mine by about 50mm so looking ar bc coilovers. Not looking to track day it....purely aesthetics.

The wheel arches on the new body are much bigger making it look even higher.

Not sure if I'll lower it. Haven't decided what to do about wheels. I currently have 16*225/45 or 50 on the back. I'm thinking i need tall tyres. No lower profile. Fill the arches rather than lower them. . . . Maybe.

Body colour pepper pots with polished rim. White wall tall tyres?

Yes I know. Tall tyres will mess with the gear ratios. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
