My Z4................... My way.

So, I had a little time on my hands this afternoon after bailing out at lunch time. I've had a piece of 1.6mm alloy sheet knocking around since I had my Z3 so decided to make a start on a heat shield for my Ramair induction. I started, as with the Z3 with an old air filter box from work to make a template from. Got my sheet metal roller cutter out and adjusted and lubricated the cutting wheels. I ended up with this after a couple of hours.

A lot of trial fittings along with trimming and bending left this,

Secured to the chassis rail with some self-drilling screws I liberated from somewhere this meant re-locating the coolant pipe which runs along the chassis top. Next thing was searching for a fuel pump mounting, I knew I had a couple still and that they were in a safe place ............................. just a strip of steel required to make a stay bracket from off the oil filter housing where I found a very convenient 8mm tapped hole. Thank you BMW
Next job refit the ramair, reconnect the MAF job done, for now.

Nice lengh of rubber door guard from Halfords would finish it and stop any Mechanic knocking some skin off.

I was wondering about that mate, thank you. You got any left !! Going to bring my IR thermometer home tomorrow and check the temp. inside and outside of the shield to see what benefit it gives, if any.

The simota housing reduces the amount of hot air being drawn in I guess ?. I'll eventually get round to improving the cold sir supply to it.

It'll feel even sweeter if you wait till funds allow though mate. It is Moz that did the bypass mod on his zed,I've followed him and had the pleasure of the lovely sound it produces,well worth doing and must be a fraction of the cost of a new cat back. I'm sure a man if your talents would do such a job easy enough .

Have you thought of extending the metal over the top of the filter as well Tony? The AFE version I have surrounds the filter, and the cover is removable to get access to the cone if needed.

I have indeedy.
Used 1 inch pipes .drilled holes in the exhause pipe before the box and after into the tail pipes .supposed to be a temp mod as i av done it underneath but became permanent.correct way is to fit the pipes above so there outa sight..
