Did the ram air filter make any difference?While the waiting was going on, on the brake upgrade I turned my mind to induction. I found a nice Ramair system on eBay which was on a Black Friday " Make me an offer" deal so I did, would've been rude not to, and then this arrived.

These new discs were treated to a couple of coats of paint to hopefully keep them looking like the day they were fitted.

Pads were ordered and asked for as the rear ones were a Christmas present, these are what I used for front and rear brakes.View attachment 50010
However they did look a little different by the time they were fitted.

The brakes discs and pads were eventually fitted along with some calliper decals. These are the finished articles. I was happy to see that the parking brake shoes were in good order.

Really happy with the way these now look but most importantly by how they now work, much better brakes. I guess that's it for now.

Took out 650 grams about 100 down on what it should be. Autodsta days 740g +/- 10. Sat it there for while, looking for a soldering iron now!

Only just read this mate ,what a great write up .So, here's a first for this thread. An item entered in this thread the day it happened. After fitting the cabin display part of my reversing sensors a while ago and finding I had a Saturday afternoon to myself I thought I should get the sensors fitted. First job was to measure and mark out the height and spacing on the rear bumper. For this I placed a strip of 2" masking tape across the rear bumper at the prescribed height from the floor.

Next to cut the holes ready to receive the sensors. Be careful of the cutting tool that is supplied as they are fffffffffffffffffffairly sharp !!

Remove the tape and then reverse car onto some 2" blocks of wood so I could get my trolley jacks under the jacking points and raise the car up a bit. I'd never had the rear bumper skin off a Z4 till today so it was a bit of a learning curve for me. The rear arch liner is attached to the bumper by 3 plastic stud at each side at the rear of the arches. Under the N/S is 1 8mm self tapping bolt near to the exhaust (but not the one which holds the exhaust heat shield) and at the O/S there are 4, all of which need to be removed. Then, the bumper just pulls outwards from the front edge at the wheel arch, it simply clips in to some clips all along the top past the rear lights.

Only things connecting it to the car are the two reg. plate lights which un plug easily. Put the bumper to one side now. Now I needed to find an entry point for the cables from the sensors and at the nearside the nice people at BMW had kindly left an unused grommet which was perfect for the job. This where I decided to route the cables from the sensors and also where to mount the control unit as well, plus the "spare" cable.
While the bumper was off the exhaust tips looked in need of some TLC.

After that I placed the sensors in the holes in the bumper, A at N/S Outer, B at N/S inner, C at O/S inner and D at O/S Outer, the reason for which will become clear soon. After fitting the sensors and routing the cables to the N/S I tidied them up by securing them to the centre two sensors with a couple of cable ties.

Having fed the cables through the grommet I lifted the bumper back up and fed the reg. plate light wiring through the light appertures, continuing to pull the sensor cables through into the car then finally clipped the bumper back into position and fitted the plastic studs and self tappers. Where the plastic studs fit.(3 on each side of the car)

The studs. You pull the centre "pin" out then the main part, refit in reverse order.

Next, the connections in the car boot. Found the power wire for the reversing lights and spliced a feed for the control box from that and made an earth for the ground cable. The 4 sensor were connected in reverse fashion A-D,B-C,C-B and D-A. The reason for this was that I had mounted the display under the dash upside down. Tidied up all the wiring and replaced the trims and covers in the boot. The finished article looks like this,

You can get caught out like that though Steve, Easy enough to fit mate.Only just read this mate ,what a great write up .
Must be a very handy thing to fitted ,my mate has them on his new van and he reverses frighteningly quickly relying on the sensors.
