I've read your thread @t-tony here's my question what are you going to do with the fog light or are you going red led your car really nice like what you've done so far
I'll be getting to that soon Steve. I think you'll like what I did.

Tony.

So does miller Mike. The 108's much easier to clean and I'm not big on cleaning in all honesty.
Not big on cleaning?
Did you not post a picture the other week of cleaning products you'd bought
Looked like you'd emptied Halfords

Well mate, buying them then getting round to using them are sometimes far apart! Don't get me wrong though, I like to keep a car clean but it's a daily use car so sometimes it's not possible to have it shiny all the time.

More progress, I think, this time it's the rear light mod. Contrary to what most people seem to go for, which is using the left hand rear light from a LHD car, I decided to go the other way and have two reversing lights. I simply think a car looks much more symmetrical like that. So I bought the right hand rear light unit from a LHD car and wired it in to give 2 reversing lights and 2 rear fog lights. @Stevo7682

Just the way it should be,
008 (6).jpg

Then of course there's the high level stop light too.
009 (4).jpg

Of course while I was at it I fitted some Cree style LED bulbs in the reversing lights and also in the rear indicators, these also needed some ballast resistors to stop the flasher can from going nuts.
004 (7).jpg

To fit these LED type bulbs I had to remove some small plastic lugs in the bulb holders to allow the squarer shaped bulb body to fit into the recess. A job for a Dremmel or similar, very easy to do.

Around about now I thought that some alloy pedals were a good idea, like I fitted in my Z3. Of course in the Z4 there is already a foot rest pedal from new where as in the Z3 I had to manufacture one.
005.jpg

The old standard pedals,
005.jpg

Then the new set.
011 (6).jpg

Some slight fettling was required to shape the new one to the original.
013 (4).jpg

But I was happy with the results of my labour.

Tony.

Now where had I seen a boot spoiler for a Z4?;)

Much more self satisfaction that way Steve mate. I used the same bulbs in the rear indicators on my Z3. Same ballast too, I really like the crisp, instant flash of LED against normal 12v bulbs.

Know what you mean my workhorse skoda full led bulb convert same as you due to canbus but my z3 canbus only engine management and abs so I'm going to put bulbs straight in and buy electronic flasher unit instead of thermal one for indicators

Hi Brian, I'll dig them out a little later and let you know.

Tony.
@Brian4 these are the ones I used Brian, fairly slim design compared to the ones I had on my Z3. They appear to be very good quality and all the wiring is plug in apart from your lights feed and earth etc.

This is a YouTube video off their listing to show how confident they are in their product .............

Round about January/February time Shirl goes over to Florida with a mate and I get some Z time as I take a few days off work.
This year I had some plans in the works which took me nearly all week. The list comprised of stripping and painting the brakes, fitting my 108 alloys and also fitting a boot spoiler which I had previously painted ready. The spoiler was first on the list as I had a member come over and help me bond it on.

The callipers were all removed, stripped and painted along with the back plates and disc hubs.

This years funds were never going to stretch to having the 108's refurbished so as they were in reasonable condition I sanded down the inside of the rims and brush painted them with some silver metal paint I got from B&Q. Before fitting them to the car I gave the insides a few coats of clear coat, which at the very least would make them easier to clean.

009 (8).jpg

Around this time I had started toying with the idea of making a clear acrylic panel for the wind blocker. Thinking it would be a place to put my forum name and other bits, and also somewhere to mount a rear facing camera. I got one made at a local firm and hopefully will be able to produce these for Z4 owners.

The next jobs on the to do list were hard wiring in my dash camera and HUD unit.

Love the rear spoiler @t-tony , what did you use to bond it on to the car?

As you know I bought myself a Z4 3.0 last August having found it on eBay and watched it for a long time before taking the plunge. It was a 53 plate car with 16,500 miles on it and in very nice condition.

There were a couple of things I was aware of from the off, which were the Map disc for the in dash Satnav was missing as was the 6 disc cartridge for the changer. I aquired a cartridge from the US and got map and system upgrade from a man who was recommended to me by Gookah (thanks again)

Now I had music and could find my way around.
As we were heading into the dark nights and winter some of the first things which need attention were the lights.I had some LED's for the number plate lights so they were first. The front sidelights were next, more LED's in here, they look much sharper and more modern. As most Z4 owners will tell you the standard headlight are pretty poor so I treated them to a pair of Osram Nigtbreaker bulbs and these were considerably better. I soon discovered how incredibly useless the boot light was on these cars too, 1 tiny little light stuck right in the corner behind the O/S/R light unit, this would have to be upgraded. So I fitted 2 of these LED strips across the roof of the boot and wired them into the original boot light.
View attachment 33087 View attachment 33088
These made such an improvement, a total transformation I could actually see what was in the boot at dark now.
View attachment 33090

The next thing to catch my eye was a cable which is connected into the rear of the standard head unit and opens up an unused auxiliary port in the unit to allow connection of mp3 devices. Sourced one of these and set about fitting it. You have to remove the main central air vent in the dash to get the head unit out. It's a little tricky at first, like this.
View attachment 33092
The 2 spring clips on the top have to be held down to allow the vent to slide out of the dash, I used a little pick tool as shown.View attachment 33093 View attachment 33094
There are 2 plastic clips, one at each side. These are similar in principle but easier to release. Once you pull the vent out you will see that the head unit is simply held in place by 2 screws and these are captive to the unit and will not fall out.
View attachment 33095
Now all back together again.
View attachment 33096

I mounted the socket end of the cable on the drivers side of the console near to the clip mount for my mp3 player. Well within handy reach for changing tracks etc. without taking my eyes off the road.

Last couple of light mods before winter were these, an overlay decal for my new "clear" high-level brake light. The original red light was broken, the clear one was purchased ready.

Front DRL's are a very good idea in my opinion so some were ordered and fitted as here.
View attachment 33100

looking good but most importantly very effective. Also see how bright the front sidelight LED's are.

Now I started searching for a right hand rear light unit from a left hand drive car ................................................................................ all will become clear, next time.

Tony.
You've been busy, looking good.
