That refurb quote was a bit, had a quote for £225 from bcs http://www.brakecaliperspecialists.uk/brake-caliper-refurbishment/ quote was for a full refurb with high hend paint job but that was a couple of years ago.

Liking your inspiring diy thread, I got some of that paint that you add the laqcure to and have a hour before it hardens which I was planning to use on the drums, discs and back plates.

The link you posted is the very same place I got the paint from.
If they had quoted me the same as you I would have let them do it tbh,but £400+ was too much..
Thanks for the compliment :).

Great looking job there - glad they were able to help, they seemed a very friendly bunch when I dealt with them - keep the updates coming
They are extremely helpful mate,Rich said if I wasn't happy with the outcome of my efforts and then had them do the work he would deduct the cost of the paint I bought from there bill .

Well I threw myself a sicky today and got some paint on the calipers
Had to devise a way of supporting the calipers and carriers so as not get my sticky pinky prints in the paint, came up with this..........
WP_20160302_10_37_08_Pro (2).jpg

WP_20160302_10_37_43_Pro (2).jpg

Worked really well as it turned out :).

Then....at last......i went and made a cuppa ....and then mixed the paint 100ml to 50ml hardener.........
WP_20160302_12_19_56_Pro.jpg

Then got the first thin coat on all the callipers and carriers,by the time I'd done the last one it was time to second coat (and last) the first one and work along the line

WP_20160302_15_49_39_Pro (2).jpg

Rich at the paint shop advised a thin first coat followed by dabbing on the top coat rather than brushing as such, which worked well apart from me getting a few paint runs When you look closer
WP_20160302_14_20_48_Pro (2).jpg

but that's down to me not the paint .
Then when I thought I'd done I spotted the retaining clips  so I set to and gave them two coats as well.........
WP_20160302_15_55_07_Pro (2).jpg

What do you think to the finish?
Over all I'm quite pleased with them, certainly an improvement from how they looked before :D.
Just want some dry weather this weekend now so I can refit them to Bob........and then.........can finally fit the freshly refurbed wheels :).

Great job, and don't worry about perfection - I sanded and retouched up I don't know how many times before giving up. When I put them on I realised half the caliper can't be seen and you would need the wheel off to see the imperfections

Thanks Bert, that's reassuring I don't fancy doing any more sanding.
As you say when they're back on you don't see even half of them. It's maybe just me being too critical.

They'll look amazing Steve trust me. Did you take some before shots to see the contrast, I didn't but wish I had. I was in too much of a rush to get them taken apart..

As long as it's the proper decal I think it would look good Steve. Liking the socket set, is that the same as mine?

So you like the decal idea then ;) ?

A good idea Steve, I would go the same route as I did with my wheel decals and mask them out and give them some clear coat over the top.
If you can zoom in on the front wheel you can see the ones I had made, just a shame the wheel was damaged where it went.

Yes mine is 200 piece. Probably never use 198 of them but you've always got em if you need em. Yes I think if done nicely it will look well mate.

Yes I do like the wheel decals as well, going to get some. Just wasn't sure if it would look too much with the calipers decaled as well.
They really look good on the wheels, subtle but effective .
