As @Rev said the other day, the brake centres make as much difference to the overall appearance when you do this type of upgrade.

Well mate, the bad news is, if you're fitting spacers you will likely find, as I did, that the diameter of the spacers is not the same as the disc hubs, so you will have to paint a small portion of the hub face too. I discovered that late on Friday afternoon.:( See below. b***** !

Oh sh.....damn.....more painting it is then :meh:.
Thanks for the heads up though mate,at least I can rectify it now :).

Had a busy afternoon, evening and night......
Started by prepping the back plates for painting, followed by 3 coats of silver (copied Tony) but don't tell him ;)
View attachment 27764 View attachment 27765

Then set about prepping and painting the disc centres and outer edges, again in silver
Pic of the discs masked up ready for the shiny stuff......what a ball ache that process was
View attachment 27767

Then I fitted a heater to the wall in the shed and concocted a make shift bench.

Yes I know very classy
And then finally got round to some painting

Four coats on each disc.....i sure hope they'll look ok on the car.
All this and i haven't even took the pads out the calipers yet.....not bad for saying I only wanted a flash of paint on them at the outset .

Steve

Had an early finish at work yesterday so I thought I'd refit the brake discs which of course is simples :).......but adjusting the hand brake....hmmm,those bloody adjusters that you have to second guess with a screw driver through a wheel nut hole  thank god I had the Bentley manual to hand what a faff...and don't get me started on the hand brake lever adjusters inside the car :mad:. I'm not kidding I must have spent 3 hours fettling to get it right, but struggling for the right tools didn't help so treated myself to a decent socket set

Then I called in at the brake caliper specialist in my home town, thanks to @bertiejaffa for the heads up on this .
Spoke to Rich, the owner very helpful and he mixed up some paint for me that should match the body colour :). For £30 you get the paint,,hardener, brush, sanding pad,cleaning\prep fluid and even a pair of gloves. They do the calipers for a Ferrari dealer amongst others.I took a few pics while I was there.......

They do a full rebuild and paint but not cheap I was quoted over £400 with basic paint or with high end paint and smoothing off the calipers £600 .....so I opted to pay the £30 for the paint and D.I.Y :).
Then I set about cleaning up the callipers.....what a messy job

Hopefully tomorrow I should get Some paint on them, then hopefully get it all put back together at the weekend ......i hope.

Will be well worth it when it's done Steve, horrible job doing the cleaning isn't it? I found when I did mine that the front callipers self bled easy, like when we fitted the O/S/F one? The rears may need an assistant. If you want some tips let me know and I'll PM them to you.

Always worth investing in a good set of tools to do these sorts of jobs with. Like the look of the cleaned calipers, you've put a lot of hard work into them.
