Great news - I knew a good auto electrician would resolve the problem!

PS I meant 'great':)

Didn't Tracy mention something about her wipers and stereo going on together? Just drove home from city so will take my meds and reread the thread to check, but well done @smiffy! JIM
Fuse 9 is for memory fuse 44 is constant radio live feed and wipers washers.
Think thats the right way round .:D or could be other way round. :p

@Tracy Dee I know from personal experience what a pain finding electrical faults can be. Lucky for me I have a very good Mechanic Local who has some very expensive testing equipment. Mine was found to be a wire shorting overtime as the electric window on the passenger side was used. The mirror wire connected to the door as the cable was being caught. Very annoying as I could not even find it. I thought it was the windows.. nope.. Door locks... nope... Heated mirrors !!! checked.. but they work.. hmmm pop.. another fuse.. heater circuit.. so it went on.. Kirk turned up.. connected all kinds of sensors.. ok.. each circuit at a time tested. Then the wire was found but only when the window was operated, which is why I thought it was the window motor. The joys of owning a Zed. Glad yours has been traced.

Tip top leckie fault finding @smiffy . One way to round down the fault is measure resistance to earth from the circuit side of the fuse, my guess would be a high resistance path to earth somewhere in that circuit. More than likely a modification has been made by a previous owner that has caused it. Then I would start wiggling wires in the cavity that the stereo sits in until the resistance reading fluctuates.

Personally if it were me, I'd give F9 a damn good ignoring if it isn't needed.

@Synclare

to be honest, the 30mA figure came from another forum and from earlier in this thread. There is no official figure I've found yet, whether it is right, I don't know. What I do know is the 135mA we had to start with would kill any battery quite quickly. A budget 74Ah battery certainly won't last any time with a 135mA drain, as tracy knows!

I'd be very interested to hear from anyone with a multimeter who fancies measuring their drain. Also what size batteries people have fitted. The 1.9 is normally 74Ah, the 2.8 has a 100Ah. I'm sure the battery box is the same in both though.

must do mine!

My zed will sit 3-4 weeks after that the battery is drained. My old pipe smoker hasn't moved since July. Went to it yesterday to switch them round and put the zed away under the carport and it fired up first turn of the key. That's 4 months without any drain. Rover all the way for me lol!

Mine lasted about two weeks (Bosch) and when it died, it knocked out the alarm system.

Hi @Shelly
Drove home fine. In total 280 miles which should have given it a good charge up.
Today is one of the days I use it for work so will see later today .
But I am sure after just a day and a half it will be fine .
Then it will be left until Saturday when I use it again for work so fingers crossed.

I hope its ok tracy as i know you have lost a lot of faith in your zed and it would be good to close this chapter in your zeds life and look forward to happier less stressful time with it. got my fingers crossed for the weekend as i suppose thats the big test whether it starts on Saturday.

its just come to light that @Tracy Dee 's zed may have had a "Tracker Retrieve" unit fitted at sometime.

Anybody got any idea where they tend to be installed?

Could be anywhere mate. I fit mine just up stream from the ECU on the perm live. Could be under the centre console or behind the binnacle.

all of ours are fitted in the boot area, cant comment for anyone else, but i would have thought it would need a permanent live, unless they contain rechargeable battery's.

maybe its still active:)

Interesting that no one thought of this possibility before this! How many mA would something like that draw? Perhaps you're onto something @ smiffy. JIM
