Hi all.
As Tittle at the end of my tether car keeps getting a flat battery for no apparent reason.
In less than a year it's on its 3rd battery granted it came with a battery which we thought to be doddgy as it kept going flat we had a spare used one and put that on after a while same thing flat.
Now got a brand new one 6 weeks ago same thing flat.
Life span is about a week before it's flat so if not used for a week flat.
Is there anyone that can take a look as not mechanically minded.
Before anyone suggests the boot lights staying on its not got one its missing.
I fear if I can't sort it out in may have to go i can't keep getting in it and letting me down nearly late for work today had to get a lift.
So please if any can help it might save the day.
Tracy.

You say there isn't a boot light does this mean it was never built with one.

Or the light is missing may be leaving the live draining the battery but i guess that would blow the fuse.

Or the lamp in the fitting is missing

Thanks for replying.
It was built with one obviously because the hole is there but no lamp whole things missing just a wire.

Hi Tracy
Bit far for to come and have a look but--
Simple quick cure is to disconnect the battery each night and lock the car manually. or plug a charger in overnight

There isn't too much using the battery when the car is off
Central locking--- do all the lock solenoids operate have a listen to each doo and boot when you lock can you hear each one clunk?
Alarm--- could be a short on one of the sensors have alook in the boot behind the left rear wheel and if a tilt sensor is fitted is it wet?
Cig lighter --- pull it out as this could be shorted.
If any body has a electrical tester they can check what load there is on the battery, it could also be the alternator is not supplying enough charge.

So could this be why your battery keeps going flat.
May be replace the light to hold the ends of the cable off the metal work or make sure the ends are well taped to prevent the cables touching the metal work

Another thing to check Tracy is the seat forward/backward/up/down switches. Make sure that one is not stuck.

Because of the problem Brian I have been locking the car Manually with the key not setting alarm which does work perfectly when used.
All central locking clunk doors boot.
Boots dry.
Don't think it's alternator no dash light never goes flat driving only when left circa 1 week.
Can't put a battery charger on it lives out on the street.
Thank you for your kind offer of willing to look I hope someone nearer with experience will be as kind.
Tracy.

Just checked seats drivers goes back and forth and up and down.
Passenger seat goes back and forth but does not go up and down.
Surely if it's not working it has no power I take it motors had it.

Possibly, but there have been instances where the mechanism is jammed. I think it's a seat out job to check though:(

Thanks Dave excuse lack of mechanical knowledge but I don't see how no power means a drain
Obviously won't be able to remove my seat myself and really don't see it being the problem.
Thank you for advice Dave.
But really hoping someone near with experience will help out.
Just can't live with it keep going flat after a week letting me down when I need to use it.
Tracy.

Join the RAC or AA your get cover for the year but make sure you get cover at home.
Wait for the battery to go flat at home call them out let them find out what the problem is.
Or a garage might be your best option

Passenger seat does not go up and down, only the drivers seat, so no problems there.
mmmm not true on all models then Mike:wideyed:. Both my drivers and passengers seats go up and down and forward and backwards.

I would disconnect the battery each night, for the time being then, at least you should be able to start it.

Tony.

Disconnecting the battery is not really a option for a girl also my radio is a nightmare trying to code stations again did it when changing battery over took best part of 2 hours to get just a couple stations back and don't ask how i did it sheer luck it's a real pig to station code.
Good idea to save battery in theory.
