Hardtop Fixing Centres

10mm is not too far out, 5mm either side, I would imagine you could manipulate the existing brackets to suit however if you do get it to fit you still have no adjustment on the x-y axis.

I notice that you have a cable coming from both brackets, these wires are for the heated rear window. The OEM brackets are only on the passenger side.

I am 99% sure your kit is a Wiesmann kit, to be able to fit an OEM roof you could look to swap out the kits, I would imagine you would be able to do this on a cost neutral basis.
Cables wise drivers side is earth passenger's is positive with the proper connector. I can't find any pictures of a Wiesmann Kit to compare it so I am still stuck.

Thanks

The OEM hard top has no adjustment. I've attached a picture.

I'm sure if you undo the large nuts on the pin adjustment (24mm spanner if I remember right) you should be able to gain the 10mm your brackets are out. Worth a go anyway ;) I adjusted mine a while ago and seem to remember a lot of movement available.
Failing that take the 90° bracket off the hardtop give me the measurements and I can make one with the hole offset a bit more at work.

Me neither.

Don't think so.

It doesn't look like your (old)/my (old)/Stacey's fitting kit, but it still could be a Wiesmann kit. The kit that gets around the soft top gas/hydraulic strut issue for post 97> Z3s.

Where did you get that from?

I got my fitting kit with the hard top. To be honest, I'd never seen an OEM fitting kit so was not too bothered. I answered an advert, agreed a price, £600 all in, drove to Exeter with my son and fitted it at the guys house. No problems then or since.

The fitting kit that @Rui Almeida has is not like mine. I'm away from home at the moment and I'm flying out to Bahrain in the morning on business for a week, so I can't post a photo until around 10th December.

Just a thought though, could you fit a few washers on the inner side of each fitting to reduce the pin centres ? If you only need 5mm each side it shouldn't be too difficult. If you need forward and backward adjustment you could try "slotting" the holes in the brackets where they fix to the car body

If you check post #6 there are no spacer washers that I have with my top that will bring the fitting kit inboard. I have had a problem getting my HT to fit my kit and when it arrived from Britain the seller had used a couple of short pieces of flat bar with bolt holes tapped and bolted in to make up a shortage. I had bought the HT and fitting kit separately and had asked the seller to install it for transfer. So watching this with interest!! JIM

Ho do you advise me to get it done on a neutral cost? No one recognise this kit so I got myself thinking is it worth anything? Is it rare? Who will be interested in this ? Fitting kits are going for an absolute fortune so I am just stuck with something that doesn't work. And I am still interested in this hardtop as is colour match.

Thanks
If it turns out to be weissman (which I am now convinced it is), there are a number of these hardtop around, these kits is as rare as hens teeth for those owners, I think it will sell to fund an OEM kit.

Edit: Just reread Davids post, we had this problem trying to get my fitting kit on his car, so you are probably both right.

I too am re-reading as now I''m not even sure I have the right kit!! If I go out I'll check for part numbers. Haven't done a lot of driving with the HT but it was using the system I described in post #28 and will soon have the front bolts thanks to @Low Rider! Would like to know how @BMBabe found installing the HT/David/Stacey kit!! JIM

It's slighly diferent when the difference in money isn't an issue :) I am not buying all in exactly cause I saw my car with the fitting kit and don't have the spare money :)

Cheers

You know what I thin I will end up buyin the OEM Hardtop for the sake of being such a good price and colour match. If this kits have got are that rare eventually i would sell it and fund an OEM as you are saying. Just have no clue where I would advertise such a thing.

Thanks

Rui I am afraid the hardtop you are looking to buy and the fittings you have on cannot go together without a painful and possibly expensive DIY and dubious results.

What you can do is purchase a set of OEM fittings, get that hardtop and later sell your kit to get the money back. Alternatively: I don't know why the hardtop is being sold...is the car also being sold? If so you could agree on swapping the fitting kits between cars and leave the Wiesmann kit on the seller's car. If not you might want to work something out based on this, also provided that the seller's car still has its mounts on.

Yes I've noticed it ahah. I know they wouldn't go together so I am looking for a solution that will most certainly be buying the OEM HT and then sell my fitting kit and fund an OEM one. Thanks for the post.
