Yeah can be done in place quite easily. Just fiddley. Remove all the intake bits inc the throttle body. :D

Good to know, just looks like it may get tricky feeding the pipes through to the correct places. The rest fairly straight forward. Will give it a go. Cheers Lee.

Yeah that's the hardest bit, I use a heat gun and warm the ends that attach to the CCV body. The one feeds into the side off the CC at the top is a right pain, made life so much easier once I heated the fitting.

A quick 10 minute job today, remove and replace the rear left faulty ABS sensor. I read some people have issues with the bolt seizing up and being a pain to remove. Sprayed the whole lot with some penetrating fluid and it came out nicely.

Next is to pull the old sensor out. Or at least half of it :banghead:

So out with the drill, hammer and screwdrivers. Broke the end off a screwdriver trying to leaver it out. But after hours of chipping away I finally got there.

So the new one had a light smear of grease and should slide in nicely. Not quite :arghh:. I thought I had the wrong one, the part number that was on the BMW one that came out was 1 number different than the replacement and not listed on realoem or anywhere that I could find. Turns out the hole just needed cleaning out as it was corroded. Did this with a sanding drum on the end of a drill as I haven't got my dremmel. 15 minutes later it went in nicely, bolt back in and codes cleared with INPA. No more ABS light on the dash and hopefully the ABS system will work correctly again. Probably more a 2 hour job than a 10 minute one though.

Looks like it needs a bit of a clean up and paint underneath at some stage.

Since I had my seats out to dry the carpets I decided to take the centre console out as I had some new gauges to fit. This time I went with Prosport ones, not cheap but I know they work. The cheapo ones I fitted last time were starting to play up so it was time for some new ones. More on these later.

Once out I decided to rewrap the centre console again (probably the 6th time I have done this) as the burgundy wrap I used 3 or so years ago had now started to fade. I didn't really notice until I took off the ///M gear stick surround to reveal the original colour

This time I went for a dark silver carbon fibre effect and again wrapped the centre console, door card inserts and steering wheel tabs.

I did notice several months ago the new extended leather I fitted to the top of the speedo pod had shrunk and at the rear of this pod again, so as the centre console was out I thought I'd take the dash out and sort it. I picked up some red dash pods ages ago which needed a bit of work but I've never got round to fitting them. With the old one out I weighed up my best options out of the selection I have.

IMG_7735.webp

The blue ones are terrible, they have been dyed (badly), patched up and too far gone so these went in the bin. The red ones were salvageable, but the best of the selection ended up being my original black drivers side one and red passenger side one. So my only option now is to dye a set to match. I have the ///M interior and the colour of this if it was red would have originally been imola (seats, doorcard inserts and console anyway). The leather on the dash pods I have are tannin red. I could match both pods tannin red and leave it at that. This would at least add a bit more colour to the interior as everything in there is very black. To do the full extended leather as OEM would mean doing the dash pods, tops of the doorcards and hockey sticks on the side of the centre console. Much easier to leave them black, got to work on the red one ready for the dye.

But... what colour dye? Black would be easiest but why not add some colour. Let's try some imola red :ymdevil: Both done and back in the dash.

I leave it there for now

You just don't know when to stop, every time I see your Z you've changed something and it allways looks great.
Well done Dave, can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Roy.:)

Cheers Roy, although it's looking very sorry for itself at the moment. Not been washed for over 2 months, sat on the drive for 6 weeks. I did manage to get out in it tonight though just to the shop and back. And my summer wheels will be going back on over the next couple of days

All the days have rolled into one at the moment so I'll have to stick to one colour. I'll call round on Saturday to drop your meds off, you must be getting desperate for them now if your saying stuff like that  Bet you won't be saying the same when everything is back to normal and your fixing my sheared bolts and stripped threads :ymdevil: you'll be sick of the site of me.

Your allowed round now to visit as long as were outside and stay socially distanced. Make sure you've got a mask and gloves on, not for the virus though it's for the job I've got lined up for you
