Another update:

Rebuilt the DISA unit, wasn't anything wrong with the old one but reading up on some stories of them going wrong and the pin dropping out into the engine I thought it's worth doing so it's future proof.

New parts

Half way through

The new O ring isn't needed on this unit for the M54 manifold. All back together and working well, a simple job.

I had a little mishap in the snow the other day at work when I got the back end out a bit quick going round a bend and ended up stuffing the front into a rock. Smashed the splitter and caught the bottom of the bumper. I had a few quotes last year to have the bumper and splitter painted because of a some flaking in the mouth of the bumper but put it off. Now it definitely needs doing, hopefully the splitter can be repaired, I have a spare bumper but it all needs fixing and painting :banghead:

Been meaning for ages to get the centres painted and the lips polished on my summer wheels to get rid of the corrosion starting to appear under the lacquer, although I've had them coming up to 8 years now and they are still in decent condition I fancied a change. I noticed a very small split in one on the rear of the rim when I took them off before winter, it wasn't leaking or causing problems but I don't know how long its been there and how big it might get. Got it welded by a local guy who has done a fantastic job and you wouldn't know it was cracked. I could leave it unpainted as it's on the rear but now is the time to do something with them.

The crack

Welded up

IMG_5061.JPG

As they are reps they can't be split, so it's not that easy to polish them as the bolts get it the way and without the tyres off and a lot of sanding and hard work I decided not polish them. I had a go at polishing the one I got welded as the tyre and valve were out and although it was coming up quite nice it would cost me £40 to get all the tyres off, then back on, plus money for sand paper, polishing gear etc then the centres and rears would still need painting. It would take me ages to do myself and probably be cheaper to just buy a new set than have them painted and polished by a wheel company. So I've taken all the fake bolts out and got some new ones and taken them to the powder coaters today and they will just be done in all one colour. Perfect timing as well as they need 2 rear tyres on them so they will put the new ones I've bought back on instead of the old ones. Hopefully I'll get them back early next week and post up the results :)

Can’t wait to see what they come back like.

Where are you getting them done?

Just put my Ac Schnitzer wheels into City Powder Coaters in Birmingham.

That’s where mine have gone also! Had a set done there before was very happy with them. @gookah has had 3 sets done there also, 2 sets of schnitzers.

Hoping to get mine back on Friday or Saturday.

They were in a bad way with flaking, chips and a great big scratch on 1 :(

Also bought some new Richbrook valves for them to fit.

I took them in with tyres on, so at least I don’t need to worry about getting the tyres fitted afterwards by a garage that doesn’t care and might scratch the new finish.

They probably won't get rid of all the corrosion if they were bad but for the price you should get a good job. The ones I took before were already in not bad condition as I sorted all the kerb marks and corrosion myself and the ones I've dropped off don't really have any marks or corrosion at all. I just fancied a change and it made sense doing it when getting 2 new tyres fitted. It's always a worry getting tyres fitted at any garage, a lot don't give a s*** about marking wheels. They are normally pretty good putting the tyres back on, they don't tend to clean the soap off them though and they use a lot of it! They quoted me Fri/Mon and I dropped them in Tues but last time they took over a week and a half even though they promised me no more than a week. When I got a call to say they were done I turned up and they had just come out the oven and I had to wait for them to put the tyres on. They then put the old ones back on and not the new ones! This was a few years back now and I think they have improved a lot since. Just don't expect perfection, if they are 80-90% better then they have done a good job. You can't really go wrong though for the price, they must do hundreds and hundreds of sets weekly now.

The insides of mine were pitted and really not much can be done about that, but after blasting at least it is clean and corrosion free so that the "paint" keys onto a good surface. Once done they'll get some sealer on them before fitting.

As mine are genuine ones the metal is quite good. Only areas of corrosion seem to be around the valves.

I’ve provided them with new valves and they seemed positive about getting them done alright.

Just rang them and they said they are in the oven and should be ready this afternoon, so hopefully picking them up later. Will take some pics and let you know how much of an improvement.

My dad took his genuine ones to them, they were heavily corroded and he reckons he got them back about 90% perfect and was very happy with them. They have changed their name from City Powder Coaters to City Wheel Refurbishment as they now specialise in wheels and they have a lot more understanding now than they did years back when they were just a powder coating set up. I think they have got it set up well there now and take pride in their work. Get some pictures up once you have collected them! Had a text about an hour ago to say mine are ready, which is impressive as they didn't have them until Tuesday afternoon. I just hope they turn out great.

Was going to pick mine up this afternoon but I ran out of time and would never had got there before they shut. They rang me to say that the valves I gave them didn’t fit - too small?!? Bloody Schnitzer wheels, so I’ve got to have plastic valves for now :(

Had a look at getting Schnitzer valves that fit my Type 2 wheels and they are £10 each :(

I had arranged to go and collect them tomorrow morning, but the bloke rang me at just gone 5 and said that where they had tried fitting the valves I gave them it had slightly damaged the hole and now not convinced that it would hold air and have a slow leak. So asked if they could have them another day to sort it out. At least they were honest about it and sorting it out.
Didn’t fancy having to find this out later and then drive back to get them to sort it out.

So now hopefully picking them up next week when I can arrange some time off work.

Yes you can get proper valves from Schnitzer I'm sure @gookah took some out of his but has normal ones now. That's good that they are honest and are getting it sorted for you, just a shame you need to wait longer. When I collect mine I might tell them I've come to collect a set of Schnitzer type 2's instead

I spotted a single Schnitzer on my way out from collecting mine this morning. Must have been yours, it was by one of the tyre machines so could have been the one that they are sorting for you. Didn't get a close look at it though. Mine have come out fantastic, I'm extremely impressed with the job they have done on them. I've see wheels that have been done and cost 3 times as much that haven't had a job as good as they have done. I'm just waiting on some badges and got to put the bolts back in somehow as the threads are to small for holes, so may need gluing in and then I'll get some pics up.
