Hi Niall, no not had chance to look. Been "Ground forcing" all afternoon while it's been dry. May get chance to have a try at work next week but if not it'll be left for a few weeks.

Tony.

I was thinking, lots of WD40 and put the bolts either side back in (and maybe a few more) and tighten, it may take some pressure off the stuck bolt by pulling the rim back down?

I haven't removed any as yet Niall, the wheels are still on the car. My thoughts were the weight of the car would mean all I had to concern myself with was keeping the bit in the screw head. I think it worked ok too. Probably the splines had been damaged by a previous attempt. The wheels had been painted without splitting I think as all the screw heads had paint on them.

Mine had been painted as well mate, when I took the studs out I left them to soak in gunwash for a few hours and then used a blow gun on them.

Yes mate, I polished them with a wire brush attachment in a drill, they come up like new
I took a couple right out and cleaned the thread on a wire wheel, so brightened the heads up on those. Came up a treat. Just got to decide what colour to do the centres now. There's a couple of places within 15 mins of work who do blasting and powder coating, so if I can reduce travel cost I can afford to pay a little extra to get them done.

Mine were quite badly corroded so they recommended the gun metal grey over silver as the darker colour helps hide any pitting.

To be honest I would otherwise have been happy with standard silver as I like to 'keep it all factory' and it would have looked better on my Topaz Blue 2.2. But I think the gun metal grey will look better on the Titan Silver 2.2 I'm doing the engine on.

Well I finally got the centres from Bournes on Tue. I have to say it looks they've done a superb job. I haven't pulled the plastic film off yet as I'm not ready to use them and want to keep them nice but the area I did pull back looks superb :)

They made up for shutting up shop on that wasted trip by reducing the price from £160 to £120 which made a good price great :)

Will finally try and have a go at the rims at the weekend.

I might be dropping off a front panel for the treatment next. Blasted and primed in matt black for £30-£40 which also sounds very reasonable.

That looks nice, will be smart with polished lips and bolts to contrast.

Just check they haven't coated the mating surface. Powder coat makes for a wonderful bonding agent to the hub otherwise, even with lots of copper grease. The heat off the brakes makes it set just so, great ensuring you wheel never falls off, not so great if you want to take the wheel off yourself though... I'll never listen to that line again 'it's ok mate, we do them all like this, no issues taking them off!'

Yes they over-sprayed and I'll have to clean up. But I was prepared for that.

You should never use copper slip on alloy mate especially if its going against steel or any primary surface, it accelerates electrolysis,

I tend to use silicon grease for that application.

My refurb is finished and got tyres fitted this morning.

I had the rims powder coated after removing the dings and kerb marks myself. When they came back from the powder coaters, I had to run a tap through every hole in the rim and clean the tap each time as the threads clagged up with powdercoat. Took a complete afternoon to fit the centres back in.
If anyone is interested, I have some BBS bolts spare plus one front rim and a centre, both for restoration.
